You may have heard that images from the set of Nintendo’s live-action Legend of Zelda movie have been leaking out. Yes and no. There are leaked photos, but there are also real photos that Nintendo and Sony purposely sent to the press. We’re got both. I guess we’ll start with the legit ones… Where do you go when you need to shoot a fantasy movie? Right….New Zealand. It’s always New Zealand. It’s pretty and exotic-looking and the tax credits are cheap. But does it look like Hyrule? …..It kinda does! Here actors Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link look over a large meadow for some Molblins to peck with arrows so they poof into meat sticks. No one knows what direction they are going with the script to this — there are a LOT of Zelda games to derive lore from, to put it mildly – but the actors’ attire might provide a hint. Zelda’s bright blue outfit is reminiscent of the clothes in Breath of the Wild, while Link’s coarse green tunic looks a lot like the one he wore in Twilight Princess. Does he turn into a wolf in this movie with a CG […]

I feel relieved that they chose mostly unknown actors for this movie. It is the first time in a long while that a big studio avoided the usual celebrity casting trend. I have seen so many fancasts online, and a lot of them were confusing. Some people seriously suggested Hunter Schafer as Zelda, and I still do not understand why. That would have been a disaster behind the scenes and on screen. It would have taken attention away from the story, and the whole production would have felt like a marketing stunt instead of a real adaptation.

Unknown actors give the film a chance to stand on its own. They come in without a large public image attached to them, so I can focus on the characters instead of the actors’ past roles or social media presence. It also gives the movie room to grow. If the cast becomes iconic, it will be because of their work here, not because fans forced a random name into the role.

For a series like Zelda, this choice makes sense. The world is rich, and the tone is very specific. Casting big celebrities would have turned everything into a distraction. With fresh faces, the movie feels like it has a cleaner start. I prefer this path, and I hope more adaptations do the same.

I’m honestly intrigued by the way they’re going with this movie. New Zealand as the backdrop definitely works for Hyrule, especially when you look at the expansive, open landscapes from the leaked images. But I don’t know how I feel about Link’s green tunic being pulled from Twilight Princess. I guess that means no wolf Link transformation? I don’t really care for it if they skip that part of the story. Also, Zelda’s bright blue outfit feels like it’s straight from Breath of the Wild, which I get, but is it really necessary to pull directly from the games? This feels like it could get kind of stale if they’re only picking elements from the more recent titles.

These first images of Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Zelda and Link are a bit of a mixed bag. I think Bo’s Zelda looks fine, but there’s something off about the look of Link. Maybe it’s the tunic? It doesn’t give me that “hero” vibe, especially when compared to how cool he looked in Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild. The photo of Link holding a bow and standing on a meadow doesn’t exactly scream Hyrule to me. It’s just a bit underwhelming for now. I'm hoping the storyline will help fill in the gaps because I feel like the look alone isn’t doing enough.

It’s cool that they’re finally making a Zelda movie, but I feel like there’s a huge risk involved. The Zelda games are filled with depth and huge lore, and trying to cram that into a two-hour movie feels like a tough task. I’m already having some doubts based on what I’ve seen from the photos. The outfits, especially Link’s tunic, look a bit cheap, and I can’t help but wonder how this will translate to the big screen. Zelda’s bright blue costume feels fine, but I think they could have done something more unique with it.

Look, I’m excited about this Zelda movie, but I’m going to reserve judgment until I see more. There’s a lot of potential here, and New Zealand is such an obvious choice for shooting—so no complaints there. But as far as the characters go, I’m not blown away by these photos. Link and Zelda look fine, but the direction they’re going with the outfits? It’s too safe. These designs feel like they’re pulling directly from the games in a way that doesn’t make it feel new or exciting. I just hope the movie does something more than just present the same thing we already know.

Honestly, I’m not too sure what to think yet. The stills we’ve seen don’t give me enough to go on, but I can already tell the look of the characters might be the weakest part of the movie. Link’s outfit looks too basic, and Zelda’s clothes are very close to Breath of the Wild, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The whole movie could work, but we need more than just looking like the game. Zelda is such a rich world, and I hope they don’t end up focusing too much on fan service and ignoring the potential of the storyline.

So far, I'm feeling a bit mixed about the Zelda movie. While I do think the actors look okay in their roles, I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by the set photos. Link’s green tunic seems a bit too simple, and Zelda’s blue outfit doesn’t seem like it adds anything new. I’m a bit worried they’re playing it too safe, relying too much on what people already know from the games. But hey, it’s still early, and it’s possible that as the movie progresses, things will start to feel more dynamic. I’ll just be watching closely.

Seeing the Zelda movie photos gets me thinking: how much of the game’s lore will actually make it to the screen? Right now, from the stills, it feels like they’re trying to combine a few elements from the Zelda series, but I’m wondering if that will pay off. Link’s tunic is too basic for my taste, and Zelda’s costume is just a bit too safe. I don’t know how I feel about the lack of major changes to their designs. I’m hoping they bring some new angles to the characters to make this movie stand out.

Well, it’s always a gamble when adapting a game into a movie. The visuals look promising, especially the outfits they’ve chosen for Zelda and Link. The green tunic on Link gives me major Twilight Princess vibes, which is probably my favorite design for him. It’s good to see they’re not just picking from one game, but pulling influences from multiple sources. I do wonder if they’ll focus heavily on a specific game or just create their own storyline. The fact that we don’t even know who’s playing Ganon yet is a bit worrying. Ganon is such a big part of Zelda’s world, and casting the right person for him is key. Still, I’m excited to see where this goes, and New Zealand is a great backdrop for all the fantasy elements.
