Capcom Reveals Resident Evil 9 Deluxe Edition Pre‑Order Bonuses, Including a Lady Dimitrescu Costume Capcom officially revealed the pre-order bonuses for Resident Evil 9 on Facebook. Gamers now see what the Deluxe Edition includes. One highlight is a special costume for Grace Ashcroft, the game’s main character. It pays homage to Lady Dimitrescu, a viral villain from Resident Evil Village. Lady Dimitrescu became famous despite appearing for only 30 minutes. Capcom honored her by giving Grace a costume inspired by her. Players can enjoy the vampire’s iconic style in-game. Lore fans know Lady Dimitrescu, née Alcina Dimitrescu, came from Romanian nobility. In the 1920s, she traveled to New York to pursue music. She performed with a band called The Pallboys. A strange disease forced her to return to Romania. There, she met Mother Miranda. Miranda infected her with the Cadou parasite. It turned her into a vampire nearly ten feet tall. Despite her short screen time, Lady Dimitrescu gained immense popularity. Her voice actress, Maggie Robertson, won Best Performance at the 2021 Game Awards. Maggie also received a BAFTA award. Grace Ashcroft will have five alternate costumes, more than Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil 3 Remake. Capcom revealed two so far: […]

Honestly, I don’t care about any of the costumes. I’m going to be playing Resident Evil 9 in first-person, so I won’t even see most of them. All this focus on outfits feels like marketing fluff to me. I just want the gameplay, story, and horror to be solid. The Deluxe Edition can have all the extras they want, but I’ll be fully immersed in the world, not looking at Grace’s wardrobe. For me, Resident Evil is about tension, scares, and exploration, not fashion.

I already have a pretty good idea of what Grace’s costumes will be in the game. Her default is obvious: the red jacket with the white t-shirt underneath and her pants. I’m pretty sure the jacket will be removable, which will be her “default” look. The second one is probably the outfit from the commercial, the business suit she wears at the FBI office—a blazer and pants, very professional. And I think her third costume will be from the flashback, teenage Grace wearing a hoodie. Honestly, it all sounds boring. No more over-the-top sexy fan service costumes like in past games. That actually makes me a little sad because I really enjoyed those in previous Resident Evil titles. They added some fun and flair to the gameplay, and now it seems Capcom is sticking to realism and story-appropriate outfits instead of letting players mess around with wild looks. I get why they are doing it, but I miss the creativity and playful side of costumes that used to exist.

I guess I understand why the costumes are now stripped down or less flashy and sexy. Flashy or over-the-top outfits really kill immersion in a serious game like Resident Evil. Remember the cowgirl outfit you could use in Revelations 2? It was hard to take anything seriously when your character was running around in booty shorts. Or the pirate costume Jill Valentine had in Revelations 1—it looked ridiculous, and the parrot permanently attached to her made it even worse. I think Capcom wants Grace to be taken seriously as a character, so they avoided sexy costumes this time. If you really care that much about those kinds of outfits, the only real option is to get the PC version and wait for mods. That way, you can still have your fun without breaking the tone of the base game.

I’m honestly disappointed with the Special Edition bonuses this time. Look at how previous remakes handled it: Resident Evil 2 gave us a Leon action figure, Resident Evil 3 gave us a Jill figure, and Resident Evil 4 is also getting an action figure. But it looks like Grace isn’t getting one at all. Instead, Japan only gets a standee, which feels really underwhelming compared to what collectors got before. I get that the Deluxe Edition has steelbooks, weapon skins, and other digital content, but for fans who love physical collectibles, this is a letdown. Action figures feel iconic, and skipping one for the main protagonist makes the release feel incomplete. It’s a missed opportunity to make Grace stand out in a tangible way.

I think it’s smart that Capcom included a Lady Dimitrescu-inspired costume for Grace. Lady D became a phenomenon very quickly, even with her limited appearance, and giving players a chance to emulate her style adds a lot of fun. I like that the Deluxe Edition doesn’t just give costumes but also includes extras like the steelbook, weapon skins, and in-game letters. It feels like they are trying to appeal to both new players and longtime fans.

Since Alyssa Ashcroft is in this game and Grace is her daughter, I really hope this means a Resident Evil Outbreak remake is on the horizon. It would make so much sense to explore more of that storyline, especially with returning characters like Alyssa and new connections to Grace. Outbreak has always had a unique vibe compared to the mainline games, focusing more on survival, teamwork, and multiple perspectives. Bringing it back with modern graphics and mechanics could be amazing. I think fans would love seeing how the events tie together with the new story in Resident Evil 9, and it could finally give some long-overdue attention to characters that haven’t had the spotlight in years. This could be the perfect time for Capcom to expand the series in a meaningful way.

Honestly, Lady Dimitrescu’s influence is everywhere in gaming now, so I don’t mind seeing a costume in RE9. It’s a playful nod, and it doesn’t interfere with the story. I hope Capcom continues to balance fan service with actual gameplay, because that was sometimes missing in past Resident Evil releases. Grace being the main character is a fresh angle, and seeing her in these costumes makes it feel fun without cheapening the survival horror vibe.

I really hope that after this news, all those Leon fans will finally stop asking “Where is Leon?” It is obvious he is not in this game, yet every time something about Resident Evil 9 comes out, you see the same fake rumors spreading online that he’s going to appear. It’s exhausting to see people insist on misinformation just because they want him there. Capcom made it clear the focus is on Grace, and that’s fine. I don’t understand why some fans can’t respect that and keep pushing the idea that Leon must be included. It gets old fast, and honestly, it makes discussions about the game frustrating. Just enjoy what we actually have instead of wasting energy on unrealistic expectations.

I feel like the Deluxe Edition is a nice package, but it’s important that Resident Evil 9 delivers in gameplay and story first. All the costumes and collectibles are fun, but they won’t make a game good on their own. I am optimistic because Capcom seems to care about both casual and hardcore fans.
