The Big Apple has its own branded video game award ceremony, the New York Game Awards, and has kept it going for the last fourteen years. 2026 will mark fifteen years since its inception, and the New York Videogame Critics Circle (the people behind the whole thing) are throwing a festival to celebrate. They’re calling it GG Fest, and it will be hosted at the SVA Theatre in Manhattan. The full lineup of performers has yet to be revealed, but upon announcement of the festival itself, NYVGCC announced that the first night will end with an exclusive Supergiant Games: Unplugged concert featuring award-winning composer Darren Korb and his longtime collaborator Ashley Barrett. The organization also confirmed Reggie Fils-Aimé, former president of Nintendo of America, will return to take the stage the way he did last year, hosting alongside NYVGCC president Harold Goldberg. Fifteen years is impressive. I like that Reggie Fils-Aimé is involved again—he brings a lot of energy and credibility. GG Fest sounds like it’s going to celebrate both gaming and the city itself, which makes it unique. I hope they also feature indie developers, because that side of gaming often gets overlooked.

I think it’s amazing that the New York Game Awards has lasted fifteen years. Many award shows disappear after a few seasons, but they kept building something meaningful for gamers and critics alike. Turning it into a festival is a smart move because it gives people more ways to participate, not just watch an awards ceremony. I’m especially excited about the Supergiant Games concert. Darren Korb’s music has always been incredible, and hearing it live with Ashley Barrett will be a treat.

I remember the first NY Game Awards being very small and modest. Seeing it expand to a full weekend festival is exciting. It shows how much gaming has grown as an industry and as a form of entertainment people respect. I’m curious who the performers will be and whether they’ll include music or cosplay elements.

I’m glad they are keeping Reggie Fils-Aimé on stage. His presence adds a lot of nostalgia and authority. It’s fun to imagine him and Harold Goldberg hosting together, with the energy of gamers in the room. It feels like a mix of ceremony and party, which is perfect for the 15th anniversary.
