“Newtopia” is a 2025 Korean drama, 8 episodes, categorized as Horror, Romance, Fantasy, and Comedy; and it is streaming on Amazon Prime. Adapted from the novel “Influenza”. Memorable Quote: “Nothing says fate like fighting for a second chance at love… during a zombie virus outbreak.” SUMMARY: A soldier’s girlfriend gave him a Dear John Letter via a text message. But he wants her to change her mind. She decide to go see him in person. It could have been normal meeting between a couple that could have either ended in a breakup or a reconciliation. Wait, so you’re telling me this is the new drama of the year? A soldier trying to win back his girlfriend while dodging zombies? Somebody convince me before I waste 16 hours of my life on this! 😂 I mean, it sounds like a wild mix of emotions and chaos. Is it actually good, or are we just hyped because of the zombie craze? I need to know if the romance is worth the zombie bites! 🧟‍♂️💔

I watched this with low expectations and ended up enjoying parts of it. Park Jeong-min’s acting carries the show. He’s very believable as someone desperate to protect someone he loves. Jisoo did better than I expected too. What I found interesting is how the show uses the zombie outbreak to reflect real-world emotional detachment. The breakup texts, misunderstandings, and survival chaos all show how fragile relationships are when communication fails.

I liked the idea that the zombie apocalypse exposes who people really are. The co-worker pretending to be stable only to run away showed that comfort and loyalty are very different. Jae-yoon may be reckless, but his loyalty feels real. The show made me think about how people act in crisis. Love becomes a test, not a comfort.

I think Newtopia is misunderstood. People expected another Kingdom or All of Us Are Dead, but this one focuses on emotion more than fear. I liked that choice. It’s not perfect, but the chemistry between the leads feels genuine. The humor also helps lighten the mood. For an 8-episode drama, it delivers a compact and touching story.

I could not connect with it. The pacing was uneven and the tone confused me. Sometimes it felt like a parody, then suddenly serious again. The zombies also appear too late. But I admit, the relationship dynamic between Jae-yoon and Young-joo is relatable. They argue, misunderstand each other, then realize what truly matters when the world falls apart.

I actually think this could attract non-zombie fans. The story is more about second chances than horror. The outbreak is just the situation forcing the characters to grow. I liked how Jae-yoon never gives up on Young-joo even when everything around him collapses. It’s rare to see a zombie show where love and survival are treated equally

The co-worker’s behavior really annoyed me, but it felt realistic. Some people act nice only when things are safe. The “strong tree” image became ironic, which I think the writer did on purpose. I also enjoyed that the female lead was not weak. She panicked but made choices for herself. That’s better than many other dramas in this genre.

I wish they focused more on the military side. The opening hinted that Jae-yoon’s enlistment problems were part of something bigger, but it got dropped fast. If they expanded that part, it could have added more depth. The show still looks nice visually, and I liked the soundtrack. It gave emotional weight even when the story felt uneven.

I think Newtopia deserves more credit. It’s not the scariest zombie drama, but it tells a human story. The scenes showing Seoul breaking down were effective, and I liked how ordinary people reacted. Not everyone becomes a hero, and that makes it believable. For a short series, it kept me entertained and left me thinking about loyalty and survival.
