Sigourney Weaver Would Like To Return To Alien Saga Again

Despite the series making a star out of her, Sigourney Weaver wanted to stop at the second Alien movie. She requested to James Cameron that “Aliens” end with her death scene. The request was denied. Later on, she made the same request to Alien 3 director David Fincher — and got it. Alien 3 ends the whole saga on a grim note as Ripley sacrifices herself on a prison planet to save the universe. Except it doesn’t end there — Weaver was back again for the fourth movie, and because of what she did, they had to come up with a convoluted reason for her being there. It’s because of Weaver that I’m always skeptical whenever an actor claims this is the “last” time they’ll play their most popular character. “Yeah right; that’s what Sigourney said. You’ll be back; you may be tired of it now, but eventually, you will miss it.” So guess who wants to be Ripley again? Weaver said to an interviewer at NYCC that Alien producer Walter Hill has written 50 pages of a script for a proposed movie that would, somehow, have Ellen The Brave in it. The clone from Resurrection, or an alternate universe? […]

I actually would not mind seeing Sigourney Weaver return as Ripley one more time. She is one of those actors who really owns the role. Even if the continuity has become confusing, her presence always adds something authentic to the Alien universe. If the new script gives her a meaningful reason to return, not just another clone or random alternate version, I think it can work.

Personally, I think Weaver should let Ripley rest. The story already gave her a proper ending, twice even. Alien 3 closed her arc with dignity, and bringing her back again and again only weakens that sacrifice. I admire her, but at some point, the franchise has to move forward without relying on her character.

I find it funny how she wanted Ripley to die, yet keeps being drawn back to her. Maybe it is not about the fame but the emotional connection. When you play a role that long, it becomes part of who you are. I understand why she misses it.

If they really go with an alternate universe idea, that could open interesting storytelling. I would love to see a version of Ripley who never went through the trauma of Alien 3. The series could explore her in a different light, not just survival and sacrifice all the time.
For me, the Alien movies lost direction after Aliens. I still watch them for Weaver’s performance, but the writing never matched her level again. Unless they hire strong writers and directors, I do not think another Ripley film will help.

I think Weaver deserves to choose for herself. She gave everything to that role — her body, her voice, her career. If she wants to close Ripley’s story her own way, I think fans should let her. Whether that means one final film or just a cameo, she earned the right to decide. Ripley is hers as much as she is ours.

From a production point of view, I understand why Fox or Disney would want her back. Weaver’s name still carries value. The challenge is making it meaningful. If they can connect it to the emotional depth of Alien 3 instead of just doing another monster chase, then maybe it can work. Otherwise, it will feel like nostalgia marketing again.

Ripley is not just a character — she is the moral center of the Alien saga. Every film without her felt less grounded. So yes, I want her to return. Even if it is an alternate universe version, I am fine with that. Weaver has the kind of screen presence that makes the story believable no matter how strange the plot gets. I only wish they would give her a director who truly respects her legacy, someone who understands that Alien is more about survival and isolation than about explosions.

I think it is time to move on from Ripley. The Alien world has room for so many stories — colonists, scientists, androids, even xenomorph perspectives if done right. Ripley was amazing, but her journey ended beautifully in Alien 3. Resurrecting her again feels like the studio refusing to let go. It is not Weaver’s fault, but I wish they would trust new voices instead of returning to the same hero every time.

I would actually love to see the version where Ripley and a grown-up Newt team up. That idea feels like a natural continuation of Aliens. It could explore how trauma shapes both of them. I imagine a story about healing rather than just running from monsters. I think Weaver could bring a lot of emotional weight to that kind of plot, especially now that she is older and more reflective.
