Shueisha has just announced that Marriage Toxin, the action manga series by creator Joumyaku and artist Mizuki Yoda, has officially been greenlit for a TV anime adaptation in 2026. The manga has been running in Shonen Jump+ since 2022. Hikaru Gero belongs to the “Poison Master” Gero family, which means he’s a top-class assassin. And the big problem with that is, his job has kept him so busy from the moment he grew of age that he’s never entered the dating world. But hey, maybe he can find another assassin to pose as his wife — wait, wrong series. The Gero family must produce an heir, and Hikaru’s relatives are tired of waiting. They’re about to order his lesbian sister to produce the heir instead, which would fracture her relationship with her true love. Nearly out of time, Hikau needs to get over his lack of experience and find a bride quickly. But who can teach him how? There is one person who believes they can help with Hikaru’s dilemma: Mei Konosaki. A chance encounter with the man leads Mei to believe they can get him the love life he lacks. Mei is a self-proclaimed “marriage swindler” who claims they can […]

I started reading Marriage Toxin last year and it surprised me with how emotional it can be behind all the fighting. Hikaru’s character development feels real because his problem isn’t just about romance, but about family pressure and expectations. BONES being in charge gives me a lot of confidence. They know how to balance strong action with personality, like they did in My Hero Academia. I hope they capture Mei’s charm too, because that character brings so much humor and unpredictability to the story.

I have mixed feelings about this. I like the concept of an assassin struggling to find love, but it depends on how the anime handles the balance between comedy and drama. BONES is a great studio, but they also have many projects at once. My main worry is pacing. Marriage Toxin has a lot of setup, and I do not want them to rush the emotional parts just to reach the cool fights.

The manga has a strong mix of action and relationships that makes it stand out among other Shonen Jump+ titles. Mei Konosaki is honestly one of my favorite side characters ever. They bring energy every time they appear. I think the anime will do very well if it keeps the focus on the chemistry between Mei and Hikaru.

The director choice makes me excited. Motonobu Hori handled Carole & Tuesday so well, giving every episode a nice emotional rhythm. If he applies that same care to Marriage Toxin, it could become one of the best new anime of 2026. I am also glad Taisei Iwasaki is doing the music — his soundtracks always have a modern but touching feel.

The announcement made my day. Marriage Toxin is my favorite manga from Shonen Jump+ right now. It reminds me a bit of Spy x Family but with darker humor and stronger emotional weight. The chemistry between the leads is fun to watch, and BONES can deliver that mix of action and warmth. I just hope they give it at least two cours.

I read the premise and I think it sounds very different from typical action manga. The idea of an assassin trying to learn about love is kind of refreshing. I also like that the female characters are written with agency and not just as romantic prizes. I am interested to see if the anime keeps that same respectful tone.

I am curious about Mei Konosaki the most. The way the article describes them makes me think they are gender-fluid or at least confident in their sexuality. That kind of representation is rare in action anime. If BONES handles it properly, Marriage Toxin could open the door for more inclusive stories without losing its entertainment value.
