Last year around this time, manga publisher Kodansha tried something they’d never attempted before: a pop-up shop. Kodansha House opened in October of 2024 and lasted around a month. If you missed it that time, they’re bringing it back. Different location, but larger square footage and bigger events. It won’t be just a place to pick up their specific branded manga this time. There will always be something going on in Kodansha House every day. Check out the official calendar for karaoke nights, speed friending events, trivia nights, live music and more….plus, the chance to meet three different manga creators on six separate days. Suu Morishita, author of Sign of Affection, will appear on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5. When I see Kodansha House return, it feels like a reminder that manga culture is now deeply rooted in America. I read Wotakoi years ago and it made me laugh because I saw myself in those characters. Knowing that Fujita will come to New York makes me curious about how he feels looking back after ten years of success. I also admire how it started online. Many young artists share their work on the internet now, and Fujita is proof that it can become something big.

I think the timing of Kodansha House is smart. October is when a lot of fans already go to New York Comic Con, so this is like an extra stop for people in town. If I could plan the day, I would visit Kodansha House before going to the convention. The location in Manhattan is easy to reach, and the schedule from 12 to 9 PM works for many people.

The speed friending activity caught my attention. Sometimes fans meet only online, but this is a chance to make connections in real life. Sharing the same passion for manga can make friendships last. I think this is why Kodansha House is more than just a shop. It is about giving people space to gather.
