This information is from a UK distributor, but we expect the film to see release in the States as well. The police thought their elaborate “Sky Eye” surveillance system would deter any thieves from the bank, but the formidable master criminal known as the “Wolf King” took that as a challenge. He and his cyber-criminal cohorts have just broken the system and stolen billions. That’s when Wong Tak-Chung, a retired tracking expert, is pulled out of his hammock and brought back into service. Partnered with rookie officer He Qiuguo, he engages in a cat and mouse game against the Wolf King, each attempting to ensnare the other in their own trap. Chan stars as Wong, of course, but the protagonist Fu is played by Leung Ka-Fai Tony, who collaborated with Chan twenty years ago in the movie The Myth. I need to ask if Jackie Chan is really the one acting in this movie. The last time I watched a so-called Jackie Chan film, it was not actually him doing the scenes. They used a younger actor for the body and then put Jackie’s younger face on him with AI. For me, that was disappointing because I thought I was watching Jackie, but it was just technology. I do not like it when movies trick the audience this way. If he is too old to do everything, then I prefer they let him act his age and give him a role that fits him. I would rather see the real Jackie, even slower, than some fake version of his prime pasted on another person. That does not feel honest. So before I even think about this movie, I want to know if this is actually him or just another AI version of his old self.

I feel really happy to see Jackie Chan still working on action films. I grew up watching him, and for me he was always more than just a movie star, he was a part of my childhood. The idea of him playing a retired tracker who gets pulled back into the chase sounds believable because it matches his real age. It is like watching a hero grow old with us but still able to perform. I also like the pairing with Leung Ka-Fai Tony because both men bring long histories of Hong Kong cinema. Since the majority of Jackie Chan's previous antagonists were physical combatants, a cybercriminal leader in his movies is novel. The plot is intriguing since the task is more cerebral this time. The idea of an ancient tracker and a high-tech burglar playing cat and mouse seems current and relevant. I'm interested to see how Jackie uses his physical abilities to deal with contemporary concerns like hacking, surveillance, and technology-driven crime.

I will not be watching this movie. For me, it is not only about cinema but also about the people behind it. Jackie Chan is very talented and has made many entertaining films, but I cannot ignore the things he has said and done in real life. His support for the CCP and the way he treated his own daughter, who is openly lesbian, is something I cannot accept. I believe that an artist’s personal values matter when we choose to give them money and attention. Entertainment is powerful, and it can give influence and profit to people who may not deserve it. For me, supporting someone who is known for being homophobic toward his own child sends the wrong message. There are many other films, actors, and directors I can watch who do not carry this kind of record. I think people should know that there is a difference between enjoying action and respecting human dignity. For that reason, I will not be watching The Shadow’s Edge, no matter how good the stunts look.
