Can you believe there was once a time when Sony’s third Spider-Verse movie was set to come out one year after the last? Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally promised at the end of Across the Spider-Verse, released in 2023 on a cliffhanger. I remarked back then that it was the only movie that could get away with a literal “TO BE CONTINUED” because it was so good that you didn’t care. OF course it came with the promise that it would be resolved soon. That, uh, didn’t happen. Beyond the Spider-Verse was removed from Sony’s schedule after stories of crunch conditions during the second film’s production were leaked. Lord Miller, the production company behind the trilogy, said that they would “take the time necessary” to complete Beyond, and went silent….and then the SAG-AFTRA strike hit and work stopped on it entirely. Since then we’ve heard bits and pieces of information in the last few years, but nothing concrete until last April, when Sony announced a June 4, 2027 release date along with fresh never-before-seen art from the film.
