Beyond The Spider-Verse Slips Beyond Original Release Date

Can you believe there was once a time when Sony’s third Spider-Verse movie was set to come out one year after the last? Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally promised at the end of Across the Spider-Verse, released in 2023 on a cliffhanger. I remarked back then that it was the only movie that could get away with a literal “TO BE CONTINUED” because it was so good that you didn’t care. OF course it came with the promise that it would be resolved soon. That, uh, didn’t happen. Beyond the Spider-Verse was removed from Sony’s schedule after stories of crunch conditions during the second film’s production were leaked. Lord Miller, the production company behind the trilogy, said that they would “take the time necessary” to complete Beyond, and went silent….and then the SAG-AFTRA strike hit and work stopped on it entirely. Since then we’ve heard bits and pieces of information in the last few years, but nothing concrete until last April, when Sony announced a June 4, 2027 release date along with fresh never-before-seen art from the film. For whatever reason, that date just slipped: it will now be coming out June 25 of that year instead. No explanation […]

I don’t mind waiting a little longer. I loved the first two movies, and I want the third to be just as amazing. If they rush it, the quality might suffer, and I’d rather avoid that. I know people are frustrated about the delays, but animation like this takes time. Also, I hope the team isn’t working under pressure like before. The crunch stories from the last movie were terrible to hear. Let the artists take care of themselves too.

I'm tired of waiting. They said it would come out in 2024, now it's 2027? That’s too much. I already forgot what happened in the second one. I don’t understand why it takes so long. Yes, the art is great, but other animated movies don’t take this long. I hope the delay is worth it. But I’m starting to lose interest. They need to show something new or give better updates.

It’s easy to be upset when something we’re excited for gets delayed, but I believe there’s a reason. I’m glad they’re giving the team time and not pushing through stressful conditions again. That’s more important than a fast release. We already saw how much love and care went into the first two Spider-Verse films. If they need more time, I’ll wait patiently. I would rather watch something perfect in 2027 than something rushed in 2025.

From a production perspective, this makes sense. Visual effects and animation schedules are very complex. If they’re changing release dates due to industry competition, I think that’s smart business. DreamWorks placing their film close probably made Sony nervous. Also, switching directors to people who already worked on the series is a good move. They understand the world and the tone. Let them take their time. Good art needs good planning.

June 2027? Might as well give Miles a mortgage and a day job by then. I'm joking, but wow, this is getting ridiculous. They better not delay again.

Honestly, this delay makes me nervous. When a movie gets pushed this much, sometimes it means there are problems behind the scenes. But I still have hope. These movies changed animation and storytelling for superhero films. I just wish they’d tell us more. The silence doesn’t help. At least the new art was nice. I hope we get a real trailer next year, not just small updates.

The Spider-Verse movies are more than just superhero stories to me. They’re emotional, creative, and full of heart. I remember watching Into the Spider-Verse and feeling like I was seeing something fresh and beautiful. When Across ended with “To Be Continued,” I trusted them. Even now, two years later, I still believe they’ll deliver something special. Yes, the delay hurts. But maybe it's okay if a great story takes time. I’m still excited, even if I have to wait.

I don’t care if it comes in 2027. I’m going to be there in the theater first day! The second movie ended like a comic book cliffhanger and I want to see how they fix everything. I hope Gwen and Miles get a cool team moment again. That part gave me chills! Please no more delays after this.

There’s no official reason for this new delay, which makes me think it’s not just about competition. Animation delays can be caused by anything from script rewrites to technical pipeline issues. Also, switching directors can sometimes lead to changes in creative vision. I’m curious if this means they’re reworking parts of the story. I’m not complaining—just trying to guess the real cause. As long as it’s consistent with the first two, I’ll be satisfied.
