There’s some good news today regarding the anticipated sequel to Radio Silence’s 2019 horror-comedy hit Ready or Not. For one thing, they ARE doing the obvious and calling this Ready Or Not: Here I Come. It’s never a given with Hollywood….remember how Disney somehow missed “Ralph WRECKS The Internet“? The other good news is the cast list. Most of the actors save lead Samara Weaving will have to be replaced with new characters. We don’t know who they’ll be yet, but playing them will be the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and David Cronenberg (yes, the director). Crazy! In the original film Weaving played Grace, a young woman marrying into a wealthy family — only she doesn’t realize her luck isn’t as good as she thinks. This family seems to have acquired its wealth and power through underworldly means, and we don’t mean the mob. I loved the first Ready or Not so much. It was funny and scary in a smart way. I’m really happy to hear they are finally making a second one. The title "Here I Come" is perfect. I actually laughed a little when I read it. I think it fits the energy of the first movie. Also, that cast list looks really cool. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood? That’s a strong start. They both have horror history, and they’re not just famous names—they can act. I’m also interested to see David Cronenberg. I’m not sure they need a sequel. The first movie ended well. It had a beginning, middle, and end that all worked. I think making a second one might ruin the impact. Also, Samara Weaving was a big part of why the first movie worked. If most of the cast is new, it could feel like a different movie. The new actors are good, but I don’t know if they fit this kind of story. I guess I’m just worried they will try too hard to be bigger or funnier than the first one.
