Can Elio Break Disney’s Box Office Curse? Disney’s original animated films have been having a rough time at the box office. Strange World, Lightyear, and even Elemental (despite a late-game recovery) all stumbled, while sequels like Inside Out 2 and Moana 2 continue to rake in cash. So, is Elio the chosen one? The film that will finally stop Disney from relying on sequels like a kid clinging to their favorite stuffed animal? Let’s find out.Once upon a time, Disney could release an original animated movie and count on an audience showing up. Lately? Not so much. Lightyear failed to […]

I truly believe Elio has a shot at breaking Disney’s bad streak with original movies. Pixar has always been at its best when it tells heartfelt, original stories rather than relying on sequels. The premise of a kid mistaken for Earth’s leader in an intergalactic council sounds both funny and emotionally engaging. Plus, Adrian Molina, the director of Coco, is leading it—so I have faith in the storytelling. If Disney gives it a strong marketing push and avoids the mistakes they made with Strange World, Elio could surprise us all at the box office.

I don’t see Elio making a huge impact financially. People love familiarity, and unless you’re selling an established brand, getting audiences to theaters is tough. Pixar is struggling to convince audiences that their original films are worth watching. Even Elemental, which eventually performed decently, had to fight tooth and nail to get there. With Elio, there’s no nostalgia factor, no existing fanbase, and if Disney fumbles the marketing again, I doubt this movie will be a success.

Honestly, I just want a good story. I don’t care if it’s a sequel or an original film, as long as it’s well-made. Elio looks fun, and I like sci-fi, so I’ll probably check it out. But I agree with the article—Disney needs to promote this better than Strange World. If people don’t even know it exists, they’re not going to watch it.

Disney has had its ups and downs, but I still trust them to deliver quality movies. Inside Out 2 is proof that when they focus on great storytelling, people show up. Elio seems like a return to form, prioritizing adventure and emotion instead of unnecessary messaging. If they play their cards right, this could be the fresh hit they need.

As a parent, I decide what movies my kids see, and I haven’t heard much about Elio until now. If Disney wants families to watch it, they need to step up their marketing. That being said, the story sounds charming, and if it focuses on universal themes like belonging and friendship, I’d be happy to take my kids to see it.
