If you haven’t heard, Oni Press is bringing Adventure Time back, in the form of a new ongoing monthly comic book. It’s the first regular AT series since Boom stopped publishing theirs seven years ago. The fun times continue next month and to mark the occasion, Oni has concocted quite the gommick: five covers that, when assembled, display an infinite gathering of the series’ cast of characters. Watch this GIF and be mesmerized. It’s the kind of thing that makes Ooo worthy of its name. Here is what the covers look like when NOT endlessly animated. They will be variant covers of the first five issues, drawn by artists Shelli Paroline & Braden Lamb. Adventure Time #1 will be written and drawn entirely by cartoonist / animator Nick Winn and former Adventure Time writer/storyboard artist Derek Ballard. “Adventure Time was such a huge part of me growing up,” says Winn. “Not only was it hilarious, but it had such an emotional intelligence that very few shows could pull off back then. Being able to revisit the land of Ooo through Oni Press has really been such a joy and a challenge to build something new while still keeping the energy and charm the show cast on me in middle school!” Future issues will feature stories and art by 2024 Eisner Award winner Caroline Cash (“PeePee PooPoo”), Asia Simone (“Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Wreck and Roll”), Jorge Monlongo (“Over the Garden Wall: Hallow Town”); Brenda Hicke (“My Little Pony”), and, at some point, Derek Ballard again. Oni also gave us a sneak peek at Issue 1: it’s wordless, so you’ll have to guess what everyone’s saying, but it shows off Winn’s artwork nicely. It’s Finn and Jake doing battle against a gelatinous…well, it’s not cube-shaped, probably for legal reasons, but it serves the same function. Adventure Time #1 will go on sale April 9. Schmazow!

Okay, so they're bringing back Adventure Time. I mean, it was popular, I get it. The infinite cover thing is a bit much, though. I guess it will sell. I am more interested in the actual stories. The fact that the first issue is wordless, that is a bit strange. I hope the art is strong enough to carry it. I do have to admit, seeing some of the original creators involved is a good sign. I will give it a chance, but I am not going to get my hopes up too high.

Honestly, I'm pretty excited about this new Adventure Time comic. I was a huge fan of the original series, and the idea of a monthly comic is just what I needed. I like that they're bringing back some of the original talent, like Derek Ballard, and mixing in new artists. That infinite loop cover is a neat idea, too. I think it will be interesting to see how Nick Winn and the other artists capture the show's unique feel. I am particularly curious about the wordless first issue. It seems like a bold move, but I am confident it will be a good way to showcase the art. I am definitely going to pick up the first few issues and see where this new adventure takes us.

This is fantastic! Adventure Time coming back in comic form? Yes, please! The infinite loop cover is a brilliant marketing strategy. I love the idea of collecting all five covers to see the full picture. The artists they have lined up are impressive. I am especially excited to see what Caroline Cash does with the material. The wordless first issue? That is a very interesting choice. I think it will be a great way to show off the visual storytelling.

It is interesting that they are reviving Adventure Time as a comic series. I remember watching the show when it was on television. The infinite cover is a unique idea. I am curious to see how the stories will be in comic form. The wordless first issue is an unusual choice. It will be interesting to observe how well the story is conveyed without dialogue.
