Whenever you watch My Neighbor Totoro, do you ever wonder what Totoro tastes like? How about what it’d be like to scarf down a mouthful of those weird black fuzzy things? If so, Viz Media’s upcoming My Neighbor Totoro: The Official Cookbook is for you. Riding a wave of cookbooks based around popular properties (both official and unofficial), this 64-page volume contains everything you need to concoct kitchen edibles based on the world of Totoro, including Satsuki’s Homemade Bento, Moving Day Caramels, Granny’s Ohagi, and Soot Gremlin Donuts (told you so). My Neighbor Totoro: The Official Cookbook comes out April 22 and it’s just one of several items Viz plans to introduce in the month of April…. Viz is a publisher of both manga and anime; on the anime side there’s the sixth Naruto Shippuden set on Blu-Ray; on the manga side there’s Pink Candy Kiss, The Climber Vol. 1, and One Piece Heroines, a book devoted to the Grand Line’s female characters like Nami and Perona. For American Big Time IP converted to Japanese entertainment, there’s a new Star Wars manga and a new “Disney Wonderland” manga coming April 8. For those interested in getting into the biz, there’s Dr. Mashirito’s Ultimate Manga Techniques, written by Kazuhiko Torishima — the sixth editor-in-chief of Shonen Jump. The name of the book comes from the fact that Akira Toriyama modeled a character in Dr. Slump after him — Mashirito was his name. This book currently has no specific release date, but it’s most likely coming out later this spring. Here’s Viz Media’s full list of April offerings, in order of release: Pink Candy Kiss, Vol. 1 — April 1 Kaiju No. 8: B-Side, Vol. 1 — April 8 Star Wars: The High Republic, The Edge of Balance: Premonition — April 8 Disney’s Twisted Wonderland: Book of Savanaclaw, Vol. 1 — April 8 The Climber, Vol. 1 — April 15 My Neighbor Totoro: The Official Cookbook – – April 22 One Piece: Heroines, Vol. 1 — April 22 Naruto Shippuden, Set 6 — April 29 Dr. Mashirito’s Ultimate Manga Techniques — soon

Honestly, I am most excited about the Totoro cookbook. I have always been fascinated by the simple, comforting food shown in that movie. To finally have a chance to recreate those dishes, like Satsuki’s bento, is something I look forward to. I appreciate how Viz Media is expanding beyond just manga and anime to include these kinds of lifestyle products. I think it shows a recognition of the emotional connection people have with these stories. I wonder how the soot gremlin donuts will turn out. I think that is a very creative idea. I will be getting this cookbook.

I think it is interesting that they are releasing a Star Wars manga. I am curious to see how the Japanese artistic style translates to such a well-known American franchise. It will be interesting to compare it to the original source material. I might pick that up. I am also interested in the One Piece Heroines book. I have always liked those characters.

I have been waiting for the next Naruto Shippuden Blu-ray set. I collect them all. I am glad they are continuing to release them. It is a classic series, and it deserves to be preserved in high quality. I do not care about the cookbooks, but I am happy for people that do.

I find the range of offerings quite diverse. From cookbooks to manga, to anime, there is something for everyone. I think it is a smart move for Viz Media. They are catering to a wide audience. I will be checking out the Disney Twisted Wonderland manga. I have heard good things about the game.

I have to admit, the Totoro cookbook sounds a little strange to me. I mean, eating soot gremlin donuts? It is a bit too whimsical for my taste. I prefer more traditional cookbooks. However, I am sure it will be popular with fans of the movie. I will be getting the new climber volume, I like sports manga.

I am someone who really enjoys the art of cooking, so I think the Totoro cookbook is a unique idea. I like that it takes a beloved animated film and translates it into recipes. I am curious to see how they interpret the food from the movie. I think it is a great way to engage with the story in a new way. I think that I will be getting that.

I think it is interesting how Viz is blending different cultural products. American properties in manga, and Japanese style cookbooks. I am curious how the star wars manga will be received. I think that the blend of cultures is a very interesting direction. I am not buying any of this, but I am curious.
