In the name of the Moon, here it comes: a special stage adaption of the manga Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is gearing up for a national tour in the US. They’re calling the production a “2.5D musical,” and though we’re not sure what that means (aren’t all stage productions “2.5D”?) it sounds like an experience Sailor Scouts of all ages will enjoy. The full title is Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live, and it’s referred to as “the first-ever 2.5D musical to hit North American stages, ushering in a new era of live theatre that merges the visual style of manga and anime with the immersive power of live performance.” The musical was written and directed by Kaori Miura, who has in the past adapted stage musicals from The Prince of Tennis and Tokyo Revengers. Choreography was directed by Satomi Toma and the songs were conposed by Go Sakabe and KYOHEI Mar 12 2025 — Pittsburgh, PA Byham Theatre Mar 15 2025 — Austin, TX Bass Concert Hall Mar 18 2025 — San Antonio, TX Majestic Theatre Mar 19 2025 — Sugar Land, TX Smart Financial Centre Mar 25 2025 — Seattle, WA Paramount Theatre Mar 27 2025 — […]

Galaxia Gorgeous is my favorite song from this musical franchise!

Will there be English subtitles for those who don’t understand Japanese? I know some anime stage adaptations keep the dialogue in Japanese even when touring internationally, so I’m curious if this will be fully translated or if they’ll use screens with subtitles. It would be great if they made it accessible for non-Japanese speakers while still preserving the original performance style.

I can’t believe this is actually happening! As a lifelong Sailor Moon fan, I’ve always wanted to see one of the stage adaptations, but they’ve been exclusive to Japan for so long. The fact that they’re doing a full North American tour is amazing. I hope they stay true to the original spirit of the series while bringing something fresh to the table. I’ve seen clips of previous Sailor Moon musicals, and they always manage to capture the magic of the anime in a unique way. My only concern is how much of the story they’ll cover—are they adapting a specific arc, or is this an original production? Either way, I’m in. I’ll be grabbing tickets for the New York show the moment they go on sale!

This is my time to shine. I’ve already decided I’m going to the Chicago show in full Sailor Mars cosplay. I hope they encourage fans to dress up because this is the perfect event for it. I’ve seen how elaborate the costumes are in past Sailor Moon musicals, and I can’t wait to see them in person. This is going to be an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves Sailor Moon, theater, or both.

I wish they would put this kind of effort into making a new anime instead of another stage play. Sailor Moon Crystal was nice, but it stopped at the Stars arc, and there’s so much more they could do. A direct sequel showing the Sailor Guardians as adults or even adapting the Sailor V manga would be way more exciting than another live production. It’s disappointing how Toei keeps reviving Sailor Moon for nostalgia but never pushes it forward like they do with Precure. Precure gets a new series every year, constant movies, and crossovers, while Sailor Moon, the franchise that paved the way for it, is treated like an occasional side project. It’s frustrating to see something so influential fall behind when it should still be leading the genre. if Naoko is lazy to write, give it to another writer.
