The Viki Editor curated a list of the “Best of 2024”, and PopGeeks has published reviews of most of the Korean dramas that made their list. Many believe that Viki is the best streaming platform for Asian content. If you are looking for content from China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, etc., you can probably find it on this platform. (I shared links to the reviews, but placed an asterisk (*) after the K-dramas I thought were really good and summarized them!) Bitter Sweet Hell* This series is a Black Comedy, Psychological Thriller, and Suspense, Crime, and Mystery. A daughter-in-law finds out after her adoptive father died that he was responsible for her father’s death. But now she has children and is faced with deciding whether to expose the truth behind her real father’s death or keep it buried. Her mother-in-law tells her it makes no sense to dig up the truth NOW! However, her mother-in-law was not happily married and the last thing she wants is to be aggravated with cleaning her husband’s “dirty laundry” from his grave! There’s also a possibility the mother-in-law murdered her husband and made it look like an accident. Does the daughter-in-law follow her mother-in-law‘s […]

The variety in this list showcases just how far K-drama storytelling has evolved. I’m particularly drawn to the complexity of "Bitter Sweet Hell." A narrative that weaves family secrets, potential murder, and psychological suspense sounds fascinating. The ambiguity around the mother-in-law’s role alone is enough to keep me guessing. It’s a bold choice to tackle morality and legacy within such an intense family drama. I’ll be prioritizing this one on my watchlist.

"Good Partner" looks like a fun, relatable watch. Who hasn’t had to work with someone they didn’t get along with? The dynamic between the young lawyer and her boss seems ripe for both humor and growth. Plus, that twist with the boss filing for her own divorce? It sounds like it’ll make for some engaging and awkward courtroom moments!

This list makes me realize how diverse K-dramas have become. It’s not just romance anymore; we have thrillers, historical fiction, and even legal dramas. Platforms like Viki are doing a great job of curating content for international audiences. It’s exciting to see stories that reflect not just Korean culture but also universal themes of love, ambition, and justice.

I’m super curious about "Lovely Runner." Time travel stories always get me excited, and adding K-pop into the mix makes it even better! It’s inspiring to see the female lead use her second chance to help someone. I think this one might resonate with younger viewers who need a reminder that their actions can make a difference.

That mother-in-law was not your typical mother-in-law. In a sense she gave her daughter-in-law practical advice but was it really the right thing to do? After all the father she loved died with his good reputation sullied by his friend and that friend raised her. That is a painful betrayal. On the other hand, she does have to consider the impact on her children. I would not want to be in her shoes. Bittersweet? For me, it was all bitter!

I loved this series so much! Those two lady lawyers were so awesome! Their methods of approaching cases were so drastically different. Yet when they worked together they clicked.

I enjoy time travel too. Although I have to say I like it better when they go between centuries like Joseon and modern-day South Korea. This one only went back to the high school days. It was still enjoyable.

Diversity? Yes. A little bit too many rom-coms I think. LOL.
