Game Awards host Geoff Keighley could barely hold it together when he introduced the trailer for Capcom’s mystery game last night, but once we saw what he knew about, we understood. The impossible has become possible and an Okami sequel is now in development. Better yet, this won’t be an in-name-only cash-in from a completely different team. Hideki Kamiya, the director of the original game, has returned to direct the sequel and is assembling a revival of Clover Studio, the place that was shut down shortly after finishing Okami. The revived studio’s name is simply “Clovers.” Released in 2006 for Playstation 2, the original Okami had you controlling a wolf, who was actually the incarnation of the sun goddess Amaterasu, as she journeyed across a painted landscape on a mission to purify ancient Japan of evil. The rendering style was like exploring a painting itself — there was nothing that looked like Okami when it premiered, and there’s still nothing that looks like it today.
