Game Awards host Geoff Keighley could barely hold it together when he introduced the trailer for Capcom’s mystery game last night, but once we saw what he knew about, we understood. The impossible has become possible and an Okami sequel is now in development. Better yet, this won’t be an in-name-only cash-in from a completely different team. Hideki Kamiya, the director of the original game, has returned to direct the sequel and is assembling a revival of Clover Studio, the place that was shut down shortly after finishing Okami. The revived studio’s name is simply “Clovers.” Released in 2006 for Playstation 2, the original Okami had you controlling a wolf, who was actually the incarnation of the sun goddess Amaterasu, as she journeyed across a painted landscape on a mission to purify ancient Japan of evil. The rendering style was like exploring a painting itself — there was nothing that looked like Okami when it premiered, and there’s still nothing that looks like it today. The brief teaser wasn’t much, but it was enough to confirm Capcom and Kamiya still know what they were doing. The new paint filter style looks amazing — a great modern improvement over the original, […]

I remember all the awards this game won despite of being a flop. I hope it manage to have a cult following because the original was so ahead of its time.

Dude, Okami 2? I can't believe it! I remember playing the original on the Nintendo Wii, and it was just… amazing. The art style, the music, the gameplay, it was all so unique. I've been hoping for a sequel for years, and now it's finally happening! I'm so excited to see what Kamiya and the team come up with. Hopefully, they can capture the magic of the original while also bringing something fresh to the table. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one

The Okami sequel announcement is huge news! I'm really curious to see how they'll utilize modern technology. Imagine the visuals with ray tracing or the gameplay with advanced AI. It could be a truly stunning experience. I hope they embrace the potential of current-gen consoles and PC. It would be a shame to see them hold back. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this franchise

It's mentioned that Ammy's human form is supposed to be a beautiful maiden. I'm really curious to see if they actually show us that in the sequel. It would be a cool way to explore a different side of her character.

The original Okami was seriously underrated back in the day. It won a bunch of awards, but most gamers were obsessed with shooters then. You know, the whole 'bro' culture thing. Hopefully, this sequel gets the recognition it deserves. It's a shame that such a unique and beautiful game was overlooked by so many.

I'm most excited about the story in Okami 2. The original had such a rich mythology and compelling characters. I hope the sequel builds on that foundation and delivers an even more engaging narrative. I'm curious to see how Amaterasu has evolved and what new challenges she'll face. I'm hoping for a story that's both meaningful and emotionally resonant. If they can capture the magic of the original, this could be an unforgettable experience.

Seeing that Okami 2 trailer brought back so many memories. I remember renting the original on a whim and being completely blown away. The art style, the music, the feeling of exploring that world... it was truly magical. I spent countless hours just soaking it all in. It's one of those games that really stayed with me. I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel. I hope they capture that same sense of wonder and magic that made the first game so special.

Okami 2? I'm already planning my pre-order! I need that special edition with the art book and soundtrack. The original is one of my prized possessions, and I have all the different versions. I even have that limited edition cel. I'm hoping the sequel gets the same kind of collector's treatment. I can't wait to add it to my collection and show it off to my friends.

You know, I think Ammy's popularity in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 could really help Okami 2 sell well. A lot of people probably first encountered her in that game. She was such a unique and powerful character. Her celestial brushstrokes were so cool to use in combat. I bet a lot of those players are now curious to see where her story goes. Hopefully, this will introduce a whole new audience to the world of Okami and help ensure the sequel gets the success it deserves
