“When the Phone Rings” is a 2024 Korean drama TV series, with 12 episodes, categorized as Thriller, Romance, and Mystery; and streaming on Netflix. SUMMARY: “Hello! I’ve kidnapped your wife?”, says the kidnapper. The husband responds: “What? Do you even know who my wife is? You’re bluffing. Call me back when you have a corpse.” ♦ I’m Not the Real Wife! In “When the Phone Rings”, Paik Sa-Eon has a background and experience in journalism and has the honor of being the nation’s youngest presidential spokesperson. He comes from a prestigious and powerful political family and understands his family’s ambitious goals. Because he understands, he is willing to do whatever they say is necessary to accomplish those goals. So his parents arranged a marriage for him with the eldest daughter of the owner of an influential newspaper. But at the last minute before the wedding the eldest daughter threatens him. She tells him to call off the wedding or she will reveal his family’s dirty secrets. Paik Sa-Eon is not one to give in easily to threats but he did easily find a way around the threat. This sounds HILARIOUS! A fake wife who's mute (or maybe not?) gets kidnapped by a random dude, and her arrogant politician husband thinks it's a prank? Sign me up! This Paik Sa-Eon guy sounds like a real charmer, NOT. But seriously, how clueless can you be? Fake wife or not, you don't just tell someone to call back with a corpse! Maybe this kidnapping will be a wake-up call for him. And Hong Hee-Joo, using the kidnapper's phone to mess with him? Genius!

Okay, the car hacking scene? Terrifying! Imagine being stuck in a car that's driving itself, especially in the pouring rain! No wonder Hong Hee-Joo freaked. Thank goodness she managed to crash it (hopefully not too badly!). But seriously, who hacks a random person's car? Is this kidnapper some kind of tech whiz? And Paik Sa-Eon being busy with a national hostage situation? Talk about bad timing! The man clearly has his hands full, but you'd think he might be a little more concerned when someone claims to have his wife.

So, Hong Hee-Joo can talk but chooses not to? Interesting! There's definitely something more to her than meets the eye. And being forced into a fake marriage? Yikes! Paik Sa-Eon doesn't sound like the nicest guy, using her like a pawn in his political games. But hey, at least she gets to be a sign language interpreter, which is pretty cool. This whole kidnapping situation is fishy though. Why target the wife of a politician in the middle of a crisis? Is it just random, or is there something more going on? And the fact that the kidnapper has a special phone with voice modulation just adds another layer of mystery. I have a feeling Hong Hee-Joo using that phone to mess with Paik Sa-Eon is just the beginning. This drama seems like it will keep you guessing!

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for Hong Hee-Joo to be stuck in this fake marriage, especially with a self-absorbed husband like Paik Sa-Eon. But hey, at least she's got some spunk and knows how to fight back (wrecking the car with the kidnapper? Badass!). Can't wait to see how she uses the "mole on her thigh" comment. Is it a threat? A clue? The possibilities are endless! And the fact that both characters have room for development just adds to the appeal. I love watching characters grow and change over the course of a series.

I got the impression the kidnapper knew a lot about technology. And it wasn't random. He meant to hack that particular car.

Stuck in a fake marriage, she's mute, her mother wants to use her for prestige and money, her fake husband and his parents don't care about her at all … this young lady has a lot piled on top on her. By the way, where is her sister? The one who was supposed to get married to the guy. I am rooting for Hong Hee-Joo. I hope she kicks everybody in the butt!! LOL.
