Jim Henson was at his creative peak when he introduced Fraggle Rock in the 1980s: first debuting on HBO, the series was about a species of fun-loving creatures who lived past the hole in the wall in somebody’s house. They shared their cave dwelling with even smaller beings like the work-obsessed Doozers (whose structures the Fraggles would frequently wreck and eat) and the gigantic Gorgs, whose world was at the other end of the tunnel. When Disney took ownership of the Muppets in the 2000s, the deal was JUST for Kermit and the Muppet Show gang — everything else Henson created remained property of the Henson Company. It’s only recently that the studio has been able to take full advantage of that, with the rise of streaming creating a market for revivals of things like Fraggle Rock and Dark Crystal (Netflix had that one, and annoyingly capped it at one season, as they tend to do).
