What Am I made for?
“Out of My Mind” is a Disney Plus original film that will premiere November 22, 2024. The film is based on the bestselling novel by Sharon M. Draper of the same name which was published in 2010. Phoebe-Rae Taylor makes her debut as Melody Brooks. A young girl in the 6th grade named Melody Brooks navigates through her world in a wheelchair. She suffers from cerebral palsy which makes it difficult for her to communicate. But she has been blessed with a photographic memory. Against the advice of the doctors, her mother enrolls her in school. School officials placed her in a special education class since they believe she has a learning disability. Melody is frustrated because the teachers are not really educating her. But how can she tell them or her parents that a lot is going on in her mind. Much more than they realize or even imagine. Melody is one of the fortunate ones because the adults and friends who surround her don’t ignore and disregard her. Instead, they think of ways to help her improve her quality of life. Even more fortunate is that there are technological devices such as special computer-based systems and other technologies […]

I was so moved by the book and really hope the movie captures Melody's unique perspective. It helped me understand the challenges people with disabilities face, even from well-meaning people. The book made me more aware of my own biases and how to be a more respectful and understanding friend. I hope this movie can have a similar impact on others.

This movie sounds amazing! My son is in middle school and has always struggled to make friends who "get" him. Seeing Melody navigate school and find her voice, even with her limitations, is exactly what we need to watch together. The trailer made me tear up (happy tears!), and the message about family support really hits home. Plus, Jennifer Aniston? Sign me up! Definitely adding this to our Disney+ watchlist for November.

Looks like it could be a real tearjerker, but in a good way! I love coming-of-age stories, and Melody's journey seems super relatable, even though she has different challenges than most. The fact that she has a photographic memory is awesome (wish I had that!), but it's frustrating that people underestimate her because of her disability. This movie feels like it could be a good conversation starter with my friends about inclusion and advocating for yourself.

I devoured Sharon M. Draper's "Out of My Mind" when it came out, so I'm super excited to see the Disney+ adaptation! Melody's voice is so unique in the book, and I'm curious to see how they translate it to film. The movie seems to capture the frustration Melody feels being trapped in a body that doesn't cooperate with her brilliant mind. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the technological aspects of her communication; that was a fascinating part of the book. I hope they do the story justice and stay true to the spirit of the novel.

Out of My Mind" is a great opportunity to raise awareness about Cerebral Palsy and the challenges people with disabilities face every day. The movie seems to highlight the importance of early intervention and access to proper educational resources. It's fantastic that they're showcasing technological advancements that can empower people with communication difficulties. This movie has the potential to spark important conversations about inclusion and how we can create a more accessible world for everyone. Hopefully, it inspires viewers to learn more about Cerebral Palsy and advocate for better support systems.

I got a feeling this movie will make me cry. Disney needs to make more grounded movies like this.
