“The Fatal Encounter” is a 2014 Korean movie, a hidden gem, streaming on Tubi, categorized as Action, Historical, Political, Costume, and Period; based on the true history of the assassination attempt on King Jeongjo in 1777. ♦ Kill the King! In “The Fatal Encounter”, King Jeongjo was traumatized as a child. His grandfather and his mother bowed to the political pressure of the Noron faction and his father died a cruel death. But they did it to save his life. Even though the Norons got their way, they were not pleased with King Jeongjo. For one thing, he told his court officials to stop nitpicking him about learning the teachings of Confucius and start applying the rules of Confucian ethics to real-life situations. He wanted to implement reforms that would help slaves and children of concubines. (No wonder they wanted to kill him.) Why the Assassination Failed The Norons carefully planned the assassination and received the blessings of the Queen Dowager to carry it out. For years, they had taken

historical drama based on a real assassination attempt? Sign me up. I love how it sheds light on King Jeongjo's character and motivations. It's always interesting to see how historical figures dealt with political pressure and the weight of their office. Intriguingly, the review mentions the king's desire for practical application of Confucian ethics. This concept of putting philosophy into action is a theme that resonates throughout history. I wonder how the film portrays this struggle between theory and practice. Also, the fact that a trusted eunuch betrays the king but is ultimately spared adds a layer of complexity to the story. I'm curious to see how their relationship unfolds. Definitely adding this to my watchlist!

Intriguing premise. The contrast between the political intrigue and personal relationships is fascinating. I'm curious about the historical accuracy. How well does the movie capture the Joseon era

Hyun Bin?! Yes, please! I'm in. Historical dramas aren't really my thing, but this sounds intriguing. Let's see if it can hold my attention.

Ooh, a hidden gem on Tubi? That's always a win! I love discovering new movies without breaking the bank. This one sounds like it has a little bit of everything: history, action, maybe even some family drama with the king's messed-up childhood. I appreciate the review mentioning the strong bonds of friendship. Those childhood connections can be powerful, even when put to the test. While a 9.5 rating might be a bit optimistic, I'm always happy to support Korean cinema. Sounds like a good option for a movie night with popcorn and comfy pajamas!

Interesting to see a movie touch on the plight of slaves and concubines' children. It's important to remember that these marginalized groups existed throughout history.

I watched "The Fatal Encounter" on Tubi and was pleasantly surprised. I don't usually like historical dramas, but this one had me hooked right from the start. The action scenes are intense, and the political intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat. Hyun-Bin's comeback after his military service is very impressive. The relationship between the king and the eunuch is heart-wrenching and adds an emotional punch to the plot. I really enjoy thrillers, and this movie was a perfect fit for me. The historical aspect made the story even more gripping.

You won't regret watching this. It tells the story of the king. But it also tells you the story of how the eunuch entered the palace and became a trusted servant. Most K-dramas don't tell you the story behind how a eunuch became a eunuch. I can't imagine that they were a bunch of guys who were born that way or that there were a bunch of guys lining up saying "Hey! Make me a eunuch. I want to work in the place." The trusted eunuch had a very sad life story.

I hear mixed reviews about Hyun-Bin's acting. Some say he's an awful actor and I don't know why. So far every time I watched him in a series or a movie, he was great! (O.o)
