Afro Samurai Comes Back To Blu-Ray This October

Crunchyroll just revealed its October physical release schedule, and though a large part of it consists of re-releases, they’re good ones that deserve to be back in the market. Both Afro Samurai and Afro Samurai: Resurrection will be released in their “Director’s Cut” versions October 22. Here’s the irritating thing: for some reason the first Afro Samurai series is exclusive to Wal-Mart. Why, we have no idea. But the sequel is not, so you’ll have to buy from two different places to get the full run. Oh, cool! Afro Samurai's on Blu-ray again? I remember watching that show way back when. It was pretty dark and bloody, not your typical anime. But hey, the action was awesome, and Samuel L Jackson was hilarious as Afro. I might have to check this out, especially if they added new stuff. Maybe they fixed some of the animation in the first season, it looked a bit rough in some spots. Also, that soundtrack by RZA was unforgettable. Used to listen to it all the time. I wonder if the Blu-ray has the full soundtrack included? That would be a nice bonus.

Afro Samurai on Blu-ray, huh? This could be a good opportunity to finally own the series. Gotta figure out the best deal though. Is it cheaper to buy the Director's Cuts separately or get the complete collection with both seasons? Maybe there'll be some bundle deals online. Walmart exclusive for the first season? That's a bummer, hopefully they have it in stock at my local store. I wouldn't mind checking out those special features though, especially the one with the creator. Always love hearing the inspiration behind these shows. Afro Samurai was something different, a breath of fresh air in the anime world. The story's brutal, the action's intense, and the music is phenomenal. This is definitely a series worth revisiting.
