High Society is a 2018 Korean drama movie, Only on Netflix, categorized as political melodrama. (NOTE: There is also a 2015 Kdrama series with the same title streaming on Viki.) ♦ Everyone in High Society is LOW! In “High Society”, we first meet Oh Soo-Yeon, a gallery assistant curator. She comes across as a hardworking, determined, highly skilled professional. It’s obvious she is good at her job. At least she thinks so. That’s why she is aiming for the position of Director of the art gallery. Right now, another woman is holding that position but she may become the chairwoman. That would leave the slot open and … who better to serve in that capacity? After all, she is very good at laundering money and creating slush funds for the wealthy. But don’t be mistaken. She has an eye for art and also for a particular artist named Shin Ji-Ho. Even though she is married to Jang Tae-Joon, an economics professor, she arranges to go on a trip to Paris,

"High Society" sounds like a drama with a heavy dose of social commentary. A married couple cheating on each other while climbing the social ladder? Politicians using a civic bank for money laundering? Not exactly heartwarming stuff. I can see why you were disgusted by the characters' behavior. The title's irony is definitely spot-on. But here's the thing: sometimes movies are meant to make us uncomfortable, to challenge our views on the world.

Yikes, "High Society" sounds like the K-drama version of "Parasite." Rich people behaving horribly, political corruption, and a complete lack of morals? No wonder you hated it! I love my K-dramas, but even I have limits. Give me a good rom-com or a heartwarming historical drama any day over this depressing stuff. Thanks for the warning, though! I'll definitely be steering clear of "High Society" and sticking to my feel-good K-drama recommendations.

I appreciate your detailed review, even though it wasn't your cup of tea. It's interesting to see a movie where everyone is morally ambiguous. Maybe the point is to show that people are complex, not simply heroes or villains. While I wouldn't want to spend time with characters like these in real life, they can be fascinating to explore in fiction. I might actually check out this movie, just to see if I find it as reprehensible as you did.
