Summer Games Done Quick 2024 Starts This Sunday

If you’re saying “Summer Games Done Quick is here already?” you might be interested to know it’s actually been MORE than a year. The last SGDQ was held earlier than usual, on May 28. It was never revealed why, but the last Sunday in June is the typical start date and we’ve reverted back to that now. Because GDQ does good things. Games Done Quick’s bi-annual marathons gather together the top speedrunners from around the country and set them to work demolishing all your favorite games in the name of charity. Viewers can donate cash to enter for prizes, vote in polls and sponsor bonus runs. To date, GDQ has raised over $45 million for various charities. As always, the summer version of this event benefits Doctors Without Borders. Here’s what we’ve got this time: Day 1 will include speedruns of Yoshi’s Stoy, Mega Man 9, Ratchet and Clank, Pokemon Violet, Bayonetta 2 and Tomb Raider 1 from the recent remastered compilation. SGDQ is BACK, BABY! Been waiting all year to see these speedrunning legends crush my favorite games in record time. Day 1 already looks stacked with Yoshi's Story and the new Pokemon Violet! Gonna grab some snacks and prep for a week of pure skill and charity.

Damn, wish I could catch SGDQ live, but adulting gets in the way sometimes. At least I can catch some of the highlights on YouTube later. Those crazy speedruns are always mind-blowing to watch.

SGDQ is basically a Twitch meme factory, and I'm here for it! The chat goes wild with all the donation messages and silly emotes. Plus, the announcers always crack me up with their jokes. Even if I don't know all the games, it's still hilarious to watch. Can't wait to see what crazy stuff the chat comes up with this year!

SGDQ is the perfect way to discover new indie games! So many cool titles I've never heard of get showcased here. This year, Powerwash Simulator and Turnip Boy Robs A Bank sound awesome – a chill powerwashing game and a bank-robbing turnip? Sign me up! Definitely gotta check those out on Steam after the event.

Love how SGDQ uses gaming to raise awareness for important causes. This year's donation drive for Doctors Without Borders is awesome. Every bit helps provide medical care to people in need. Maybe I can convince my friends to donate a few bucks while we watch the streams together. Gaming can be a force for good, and SGDQ proves it

Watching the pros is the best way to learn new techniques and strategies. Maybe someday I'll be good enough to apply to run at a GDQ event myself! This year, the Kirby 64 and Ratchet & Clank runs are calling my name – those are games I know inside and out. Gotta start practicing and see if I can break some records!

I'm especially interested in watching speedruns of old classics like Tomb Raider or Mega Man 9, because these games have a special nostalgia, and when you see someone beat them in 20 minutes, it just doesn't fit in your head.
