Paramount's Smile 2 Throws In A Wild Twist

Reactions to 2022’s horror feature Smile fell into two camps: the people who walked out thinking “that was pretty creepy!” and the people who thought “you gotta be kidding me, was that it? Just a bunch of people standing around with evil grins? That’s not scary at all!” The movie is perhaps more remembered for how it promoted itself than anything else: Paramount hired people to stand around at filmed public places like baseball games and smile unnervingly. Thing is, a stranger grinning at you for no reason is creepier in real life than it is in a horror movie, where you’ve gotta bring more to the table. Especially in sequels. Paramount seems to understand this because Smile 2 swings for the fences in an unexpected way. The cursed main character of the original film was an ordinary woman with an ordinary job. In Smile 2, the affected one is an international pop superstar. You almost never see THIS kind of setup in a horror movie because they tend to

Whoever came up with the marketing campaign for the first Smile movie deserves a raise. Creepy smile-alikes at baseball games? Genius! It perfectly captured the whole "smile = horror" vibe. I wonder what they'll cook up for Smile 2. Maybe flash mobs with creepy grins? Sky's the limit (pun intended) for messing with people!

I enjoyed the first Smile for its creepy vibe, even if it wasn’t the scariest movie I’ve seen. Smile 2 sounds like it’s taking things up a notch with a more unique premise. I think following a pop star through a horror storyline could be really new, especially with the added tension of her public life. It’s not often you see a horror protagonist who’s in the spotlight like this. I’m curious to see how they develop Skye Riley’s character and handle the balance between her glamorous facade and the terror she’s experiencing. I’ll definitely check it out when it comes out.

Smile 2 sounds pretty cool, especially with the new twist of having a pop star as the main character. I liked the first movie even though some parts were a bit silly, so I’m curious to see how they handle this new direction. Skye Riley’s life will definitely make it harder for her to escape the curse, which should make the movie more intense. I’m not sure if the marketing will be as memorable as the first one, but I’m hoping the movie itself will be entertaining.

Hold on a second... did anyone else notice the symbolism in the trailer? The whole "smile curse" spreading like wildfire? Sounds eerily similar to the rise of social media "happiness" culture, doesn't it? What if Smile 2 is a metaphor for the pressure to be constantly happy online? This movie might be deeper than just jump scares, people.
