After IDW re-upped their deal with the TMNT license, they promised a new beginning for the comic. Today, we learned just what that means as the plot, writers and entire pages from Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles #1 were revealed. There will be a time skip between the last issue of the previous run and this one. When we rejoin the Half-Shell Heroes, they’ll be living separate lives apart from each other, and each of the firs tfour issues will reveal where one Turtle is and what he’s doing. Issue #1 focuses on Raphael. Guess what….he’s in prison. For what is unclear, but he’s the only mutant turtle in a jail full of humans, and they don’t seem to like him. And of course if you poke Raph, he pokes back! Here is some wordless art from TMNT #1 to show you what this looks like: Jason Aaron, the Eisner-winning author of Batman: Off-World and Thor: The God of Thunder, is scripting the new TMNT book, and says he’s always loved

Seeing Raphael in prison, especially in a gritty, hostile environment, seems like it'll bring out the best and worst in him. I love that Jason Aaron is writing this; his work on Thor and Batman has been stellar. His admiration for the original comics by Eastman and Laird gives me confidence that he’ll stay true to the spirit of TMNT. I can't wait to see Joëlle Jones’ art and how it sets the tone for this new chapter. July 24th can't come soon enough!

YES! A TMNT relaunch with a whole new story? Sign me up! I loved the original comics by Eastman and Laird, and it sounds like this new writer, Jason Aaron, gets what made them special. "Grungy and raw" is exactly the vibe I want from my TMNT! Raphael in prison? Now that's an unexpected twist! I can't wait to see how he got there and how he'll get out. Single-turtle focus for the first four issues is intriguing – a deep dive into each brother's life is a great way to reintroduce them. Joëlle Jones for the first issue? Her art is phenomenal, the visuals will be stunning.

I enjoyed the previous run, a fresh start could be interesting. Raphael in prison? Sounds like a dark turn for the usually hot-headed Turtle. I'm curious to see how they handle this and what it means for the team dynamic. Focusing on each turtle individually in the first four issues is a unique approach, but I hope it doesn't come at the expense of seeing them together soon. Jason Aaron's a talented writer, but his past work feels a bit different from TMNT. I'm cautiously optimistic that he can capture the spirit of the Turtles.

I get they're a classic, but it feels like there's been a constant stream of comics and reboots lately. Raphael in prison? Sounds like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for storylines. Focusing on just one turtle per issue seems like a way to stretch things out. Not my cup of tea. I prefer stories that feature all four Turtles working together. The writer's background doesn't inspire confidence for a TMNT story. While the artist is great, it's not enough to overcome my lack of interest in this particular direction. I'll pass on this relaunch and stick with other comics that offer something fresher.

I'm particularly excited about the artistic direction of this new TMNT series. Joëlle Jones is incredibly talented, and her art style should bring a fresh yet gritty look to the turtles. Having different artists for the subsequent issues is an interesting choice; it could provide a unique visual diversity that reflects the different lives the turtles are living. Raphael in prison offers a lot of potential for intense, dramatic artwork. Jason Aaron’s respect for the original comics gives me hope that this reboot will maintain the raw, edgy feel that made TMNT stand out.

I, too, would prefer to see the turtles together, but this should be interesting for a change. And who knows, maybe the turtles will all be together in the series before too long. Having them separate of course allows them to focus more on each one individually, but I always like the team dynamic. We'll see how this goes. Definitely intriguing.

As someone who’s loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for decades, this announcement has me both excited and a bit nervous. The time skip and separation of the turtles could lead to some incredible character development, but it could also fragment the story. Raphael in prison sounds like a classic Raph storyline, filled with tension and conflict. Jason Aaron is a fantastic writer, and his love for the original comics is promising.

Another TMNT relaunch? Feels like they reboot this franchise every few years. Haven't they run out of ideas by now?
