Months ago, it was reported that Amazon was looking into making a Tomb Raider series. What’s confusing about this is that Netflix is also working on one — but THAT one will be animated, whereas this version will be live-action. It’s enough of a difference for two separate companies to split the rights. Today Amazon announced it has officially ordered the series into production. The original announcement mentioned Phoebe Waller-Bridge might be involved as showrunner and executive producer, and we can report that…yes, that is still true. She’s also writing all the Season One scripts, so she’s throwing herself into it. Between Fleabag and the first season of Killing Eve, Waller-Bridge usually does good work (note that this reporter has not seen Dial of Destiny). “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.
