Remember two summers ago when Amazon Prime and (HBO) Max released two fantasy epics at the same time? Max’s offering was House of the Dragon, a prequel spinoff of Game of Thrones, while Amazon’s counter was a massive vanity project costing over one billion, based around the scraps of Lord of the Rings mythology they held the rights to. Being more expensive and loud, Rings Of Power attracted more attention at first, but it was House of the Dragon that won favor with audiences in the end. There are people looking forward to HotD Season 2 with anticipation, whereas I haven’t heard many positive comments about Rings of Power since it finished its first season. The dueling companies don’t seem to think the battle is over, however. The latest trailers for both Rings of Power and House of the Dragon just premiered on the same day at the same time, which we doubt is a coincidence.
