Sega Is Reviving Five Game Properties...Maybe Six

The problem with the game industry releasing 10,000 trailers at the same time, as they did last weekend during the Game Awards, is that it all becomes noise, and a lot of developers won’t get quite as MUCH attention as they hoped. But when I think back on that noisy night a few days ago, a few things managed to stick out, and one was Sega announcing FIVE games based on their classic properties, out of nowhere.

Sega, you had me at the edge of my seat, and then you drop the bomb – these are just remasters? Seriously? I was expecting full-blown sequels or remakes that would redefine these classics for a new generation. Remasters are nice for a touch of nostalgia, but come on, give us something groundbreaking! The gaming world is evolving, and I was hoping Sega would lead the charge, not just rehash the past.

Virtua Fighter making a potential comeback? About time! While it may lack the flashy moves of Street Fighter, its realism is its charm. Sega, just keep refining that realism and maybe add a cinematic touch. Excited to see what they come up with – Virtua Fighter deserves a modern renaissance!

Well, there goes my excitement. I was ready to dive into completely new experiences with these beloved franchises, but it seems Sega is content with sticking to the familiar. Remasters are fine, but in an industry where innovation is key, this feels like a missed opportunity. I'll still give them a shot for the sake of nostalgia, but the potential for so much more is frustratingly apparent.

Oh, cool! I remember playing Streets of Rage back in the day. Nice to see Sega dusting off some classics. Might give the new ones a shot. Fingers crossed they capture the essence of the originals. Anyone else feeling the nostalgia kick?
