Forspoken Delayed Until October 11
Of all the video games shown off at last year’s E3, Forspoken was the one I found most interesting. The action-adventure game from Square Enix had an interesting main character, an intriguing hook, and what APPEARED to be good gameplay (we’ll see on that end). I knew this would be the game I’d have to get a Playstation 5 for (or, at least, a Steam Deck). And therein lies the problem: nine months later, it’s still impossible to get a PS5.
So the fact that Forspoken was just announced to be delayed five months might be aggravating to some, but welcome news to me. Previously targeted for May, the game will instead debut in October. (The way things are going, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if I still can’t find a PS5 by the fall.)
“Our vision for this exciting new IP is to deliver a game world and hero that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come, so getting it right is extremely important for us,” Luminous Productions said in a tweet this morning. “To that end, during the next few months we will focus all of our efforts on polishing the game and can’t wait for you all to experience Frey’s journey this fall.”
Forspoken is about Frey Holland, a smart-mouthed stereotypical New Yorker who falls into a portal and wakes up in a fantasy realm, with a twisty sentient weird thing attached to her arm. The thing (who she names “Cuff”) tells her they can save his world if they work together…and so they do. Cuff gives Frey amazing powers and she uses them to take down the corrupt ruling order of Athia.
Assuming there won’t be another delay on top of this one, Forspoken will be released October 11, 2022.
