First Look At Twisted Metal Season Two

The first season of Twisted Metal was released on Peacock in the summer of 2023. Despite being based on a video game series that hasn’t had a sequel since the 2000s, it managed to find its audience – never a guarantee with streaming — and that was a good thing since Season One was definitely not stand-alone. It ended on a big teaser for the events of a possible second season.

Though the Twisted Metal games are all about car combat, the show wasn’t really about that in its first episodes…it was about setting up who the characters were, their motivations and backstories. We met John Doe (yeah, he doesn’t know his name), a professional delivery driver in a loony post-apocalyptic America who is given his most dangerous assignment yet, but promised a safe place to live if he succeeds. Along his route John picks up Quiet, who at first lives up to that name before becoming quite talkative a couple episodes later. Together they must survive many hazards including multiple run-ins with Sweet Tooth, the crazy clown and Twisted Metal icon.

Season One ended with John accomplishing his mission, but getting tricked in the process — he didn’t really get what he wanted. Turns out the REAL way to achieve your dreams is to enter a dangerous demolition derby tournament and bash other cars around to be the last one standing. In other words, car combat will finally be a focal point of the plot.

Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John, Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, Will Arnett and Samoa Joe in a dual role as Sweet Tooth (SJ provides the body, Arnett provides the voice). Season Two will introduce Anthony Carrigan as tournament host Calypso, whom you can catch a glimpse of at the end of the trailer.

The true battle begins this summer on Peacock when Twisted Metal returns for another round!

I'm really excited about this second season. The first season, while entertaining, felt like it was holding back. The focus on character development was fine, but let's be honest, we're here for the vehicular mayhem. The fact that they're finally leaning into the demolition derby aspect is exactly what I was hoping for. Anthony Mackie is great, and I'm curious to see how Anthony Carrigan portrays Calypso. He's got the right unsettling vibe for it. My biggest concern is whether they can balance the over-the-top action with the character-driven story they established in the first season. If they can pull that off, this could be a truly memorable show. I just hope they don't get too silly with it. The post-apocalyptic setting needs to retain some sense of danger.

I actually liked that the first season took its time to establish characters and world-building. If they had jumped straight into nonstop action, it wouldn’t have had any weight. Now that we know who John and Quiet are, their motivations will actually matter in the tournament. That’s how you do it—build up the stakes before the chaos begins.

About time! I enjoyed the first season of Twisted Metal for what it was, but it definitely felt like a long prologue. All that backstory and setup, while well-acted, left me craving the actual Twisted Metal tournament. Now that they're finally getting to it, I have high expectations. They've established the characters, now let's see some creative car combat. I'm particularly interested in seeing how they translate the different characters and their signature vehicles from the games into the show. That's a big part of what made the games so fun.

I was a bit skeptical about the first season, but I ended up enjoying it more than I expected. It had a quirky charm, and the performances were solid. However, I agree with most people that it felt like it was missing something. That something was, of course, the actual Twisted Metal tournament. So, I'm glad they're addressing that in the second season. Introducing Calypso is a smart move, and I think it will add a new layer of intrigue to the show. I'm just hoping they don't overdo the CGI. Practical effects can go a long way in making car combat look more visceral and impactful.

I went into this show with zero expectations and ended up having a blast. I don’t even play Twisted Metal, but I loved the energy and dark humor. If season two is bringing even crazier action, I’m in. Hopefully, it’s just as funny because Sweet Tooth stole every scene he was in.

Peacock needs more hits, so I hope this delivers. The first season got people talking, but season two needs to go bigger. If they nail the car combat, this could be one of the best action shows out there. Anthony Mackie is great, but Sweet Tooth better have even more screen time.

I was a little disappointed with the lack of car combat in the first season. It felt like they were holding back. But I understand that they needed to establish the characters and the story first. Now that they've done that, I'm ready for some serious vehicular mayhem. I'm hoping the second season delivers on the promise of the title and gives us some truly twisted metal action. I'm particularly excited to see Sweet Tooth in action. He's such a terrifying and iconic character.
