Finally, Donkey Kong 94 Is On Nintendo Switch Online

There’s been a big hole in the Game Boy portion of the Nintendo Switch Online library for quite some time. Since launch until now, the service has NEVER carried Donkey Kong for Game Boy, most popularly known as Donkey Kong 94 — one of the handheld’s all-time best games. Today was the day that was finally corrected. About time!

The genius of the game is how it takes the addictive but simple mechanics of the arcade original and expands them into a fully realized world with new abilities, tougher puzzles and deeper challenges. It is basically the definitive version of classic Donkey Kong — we could call it Super Donkey Kong if that wasn’t already the name Donkey Kong Country went by in Japan. The only downside here is that, like all Game Boy NSO games, this has no Super Game Boy mode.

The Game Boy version of the classic arcade game returns!

Donkey Kong has once again kidnapped Pauline!

Challenged by many perils, Mario must reach his archrival in order to save our damsel in distress. As Mario makes his way through a series of platforms while jumping and dodging obstacles, he will also need to gather disappearing keys to unlock doors to hidden rooms.

Donkey Kong will stop at nothing to confuse and trap our hero. Help guide Mario as he journeys to the top! With 10 stages and 100 tricky levels to solve, it is a long trek to the final confrontation!

On this same day, Nintendo has also added Mario’s Picross — a different kind of game entirely, but just as addictive. The goal is to reveal pictures by filling in tiles using clues given by numbered rows. It’s kinda related to sudoku but works a bit differently. Since picross isn’t as flashy as the action-oriented gameplay of Donkey Kong 94, it wasn’t as big a hit over here, but now you can try them both.

Use logic to reveal mysterious hidden pictures! Help Mario unlock the mystery of Picross. The secrets lie in the numeric codes at the top and on the left side of each window. Decipher these numbers and uncover a hidden picture in every mind-bending puzzle. It will take quick wits and a speedy pace to solve the clues before the clock runs out. Chisel away boxes strategically and reveal the hidden image in record time. But be careful—every mistake will cost you precious minutes! There are more than 250 brain-bending puzzles to solve in all, with different levels of difficulty to provide mind-melting puzzle action for players of any skill level.

Donkey Kong 94 and Mario’s Picross are available now on NSO’s basic tier.

I’m thrilled Nintendo finally added Donkey Kong 94 to Switch Online! I spent countless hours as a kid navigating those clever levels. The way it builds on the arcade game with new mechanics like keys and puzzles still feels fresh. I just wish they’d included the Super Game Boy colorsβ€”those borders really popped back in the day. Mario’s Picross is a nice bonus too. I’ve always found those logic puzzles relaxing, though I’ll admit I’m terrible at them. Still, it’s great to have both games in one drop. I’ll be jumping back into Donkey Kong tonight, dodging barrels like it’s 1994 all over again. Nintendo’s been slow with some of these classics, but this makes up for it.

Well, it’s about time Donkey Kong 94 hit Nintendo Switch Online. I’ve been waiting for this one foreverβ€”seriously, what took them so long? That game was a masterpiece on the Game Boy, taking a simple arcade concept and turning it into something huge with 100 levels of brain-twisting fun. I love how Mario’s got to outsmart Donkey Kong at every turn; it’s pure nostalgia for me. Mario’s Picross, though? I’m not sold. I tried it once and couldn’t get into chiseling away at those gridsβ€”it’s too slow for my taste. Give me action over puzzles any day. Still, I respect Nintendo for throwing it in there. I’ll be playing Donkey Kong 94 all weekend, and honestly, that’s all I need from this update. The basic tier just got a lot better.

I can’t tell you how excited I am that Donkey Kong 94 is finally on Nintendo Switch Online. I remember getting it for my Game Boy back in the ’90sβ€”it was my first real gaming obsession. The way it starts with the familiar arcade setup and then explodes into this massive adventure with flips, jumps, and those disappearing keys? Genius. I used to spend hours figuring out every stage, and I’m already planning to relive that this weekend. It’s a shame there’s no Super Game Boy mode, though; I loved how vibrant it looked on my old TV. As for Mario’s Picross, I’m intrigued. I’ve never been great at logic games, but I like the idea of uncovering pictures with numbersβ€”it sounds oddly satisfying. I’ll give it a fair shot, but Donkey Kong is the star here. I think Nintendo’s doing right by us with this update. Sure, it’s been a long wait, but getting two solid titles like these on the basic tier feels like a win. I just hope they keep the momentum going with more hidden gems from the Game Boy library. For now, I’m off to rescue Pauline againβ€”wish me luck!

Donkey Kong 94 on Switch Online? Yes, please! I’ve been dying to play this again since my Game Boy days. It’s such a clever expansion of the arcade gameβ€”those 100 levels kept me hooked for months. I love how Mario’s got new moves and the puzzles get trickier as you go. Mario’s Picross is a cool addition too. I’m not usually into puzzle games, but I can see myself getting lost in those number grids for a while. It’s a quieter vibe, which might be nice after dodging Donkey Kong’s traps. Nintendo’s finally listening to us, and I’m here for it. No Super Game Boy mode is a bummer, but I’ll survive. This drop makes the basic tier worth it.
