The Elder Scrolls Online Console Release Set for June, Subscription Fees Dropped
Bethesda Softworks has officially announced today (Jan. 21) that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will be getting a console release later this summer. The game will hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 9.
In addition, Bethesda also confirmed that the game will not require a monthly game subscription fee for extended play. That means when players buy the game for their console, PC or Mac, they only have to make the one-time purchase of the game to enjoy all of its content without any monthly subscription requirements. The game will be dropping the monthly subscription fee starting March 17 for Windows PC and Mac players.
The upcoming console release for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will include all the gameplay from the PC/Mac version of the game, as well as all the updates, content additions and the new Justice and Champions systems. The existing PC/Mac accounts, both open or closed, will be updated for the Tamriel Unlimited edition in March. Former players will receive an invite back to the game. According to Bethesda, the game will offer regular updated and new gameplay for players that will be free of any additional charges.
There appears to be one catch in the form of the ESO Plus premium membership. Players will have the option to pay a single monthly charge for the premium membership service, which offers some exclusive in-game bonus content, a monthly allotment of crowns to use in the in-game crown store and access to all the DLC game packs. Players with active memberships will automatically be enrolled to ESO Plus starting March 17. So players who do not want to have their expiring monthly membership fee being converted to the ESO Plus package will probably have to check in with the service about opting out.
Speaking on the announcement, The Elder Scrolls Online Game Director Matt Firor stated: “Our fans are our biggest inspiration, and we’ve listened to their feedback on the entertainment experience they want. We know that Elder Scrolls fans want choice when it comes to how they play and how they pay, and that is what they will get. We have made numerous changes to the game over the past year, and are confident this is a game that Elder Scrolls fans will love to play. Players can explore Tamriel with friends, battle creatures, craft, fish, steal, or siege. The choice is theirs. The game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay with unlimited adventures with one single game purchase. We can’t wait for everyone, whether they’ve played before or will be experiencing it for the first time, to begin adventuring in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.”
Bethesda also released a new CG cinematic trailer for The Elder Scrolls: Tamriel Unlimited. The new trailer, titled “The Confrontation,” is available below.
