E3: New Fighters for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS
Nintendo announced at its E3 press conference that both the release dates for its Wii U and 3DS versions of the newest Super Smash Bros. game would be moved. Depending on what version you planned on getting this could be either good or bad, with the 3DS version being pushed back to October 3rd 2014 and the Wii U version being released during the holidays. On top of that Nintendo released information regarding new fighters for the game including Lady Palutena from the Kid Icarus franchise and word of the introduction of Pac-Man.
Palutena’s introduction was accompanied with a animated trailer depicting the goddess’s arrival to the arena, but the trailer also featured the introduction of Dark Pit from Kid Icarus Rising, hinting at his possibility as a playable character. Though whether he’d be acting as another palette swap for Pit or as a whole new character remains wholly unanswered.
On the other hand, Pac-Man’s announcement went by only with a few screenshots depicting Pac-Man in all his yellow glory. It was announced that some of his attacks will incorporate eating dots and even transforming into his more traditional “pizza” shape.
Beyond registered characters, Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros., also announced the inclusion of customizable Mii fighters that players can transfer between both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the new Super Smash Bros. game. Sakurai said that Mii fighters would receive unique move-sets compared to other fighters and that upon creation players could choose one of three different fighting styles: brawlers rely on their fists and fight empty-handed, swordfighters specialize in weaponry, while gunners focus on projectile attacks.
Sadly, players will not be able to mix and match moves from the different fighting styles, limiting customization somewhat.
As E3 unfolds we can expect more information incoming about the new game.
