In an official statement on the Dying Light Facebook page, game developer Techland confirmed that the release date for the physical disc copies of the first-person, zombie survival game will receive a “short delay” in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. The digital release for Dying Light in those aforementioned territories will still go forward on January 27 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
Based on the announcement, there appears to be no issue with the physical copies for the North American release of the game. According to the statement, “as physical production has a longer lead time than digital there is some delay in the aforementioned territories.” The statement adds, “We will share information on the availability of physical copies as soon as it is confirmed.”
Rumors of another release delay for Dying Light first popped up earlier this week on HardcoreGamer.com. The HardcoreGamer report suggested the delay could be the result of the recent terrorist attacks that took place in Europe this month. Amazon France had the game’s release date listed as March 31. Another online gaming store had the release date as February 27. The report also speculated that certain scenes in the game needed to be changed in light of the recent attacks. Going off today’s announcement, that does not appear to be the case.
If the game will be released uncensored for the North American release, players would likely find any notable differences for the international versions very quickly after launch. Not to mention, the game will still be available as a digital release for the international territories on January 27. At least on the surface, it appears the delay was the result of production and manufacturing issues.
For now, Dying Light is scheduled for a North American release on January 27 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The game will be available as a global digital release on the same date.
