Dragon Quest X – The Fallout
Reports out of Japan suggest that not everyone is too happy with yesterday’s Dragon Quest announcements…
Yesterday Square-Enix announced the first details of Dragon Quest X, originally announced for the Wii back in 2008 this was the first time any concrete info has been shared. Square-Enix confirmed that the the game would still land on Wii but would also recieve a visually-upgraded port to Wii U. Both of these titles will be able to share your game save, and also allow for cross-platform play online. To play online users will more-than-likely have to pay extra, and playing online is required to play through the full game. They also spoke of plans to have 3DS functionality where you will be able to use streetpass to swap characters and items with strangers.
Since yesterday’s announcement Square-Enix’s stocks have dropped 10%!..
However, its not all doom and gloom, Masahiro Sakurai, the man behind Smash Brothers and Kid Icarus: Uprising, has weighed in with his thoughts…
“After hearing that it’s online, the number of people who say the classic style Dragon Quest would be better is probably not low. However, in a game industry where evolution and sudden changes are tolerated, even considered expected, just treading the same path would be be troubling. It’s being made by people who’ve made sound titles in the past, so I’m greatly looking forward to it.”
