The Trilogy is Complete With Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake Available

The two classics that started the Dragon Quest series is here, and with a beautiful new coat of paint! The Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is now available, concluding the HD-2D remake trilogy of the original Dragon Quests!

Dragon Quest needs little introduction, standing as one of the most important series in video gaming history. The series defined RPGs and revolutionized how the genre would play. The games are spoken in the same breath as titans like Pokemon and Final Fantasy, and held in just as high regard.

That high regard was why the announcement of the first two games were such a monumental thing. It had been a long time since the games released on both the NES and SNES, with no easy way to play them. The remakes were away to make them more readily available, while improving the game with modern game design in mind.

THE CLASSICS, REMADE ANEW

The remakes would shake up quite a few aspects of the originals, starting with the graphics. Rather than changing them, the remake chose to update and perfect the pixel art style with an HD-2D style. The game looks stunning, blending the revamped pixel art with beautifully shaded 3D areas that makes sprites pop.

While the core gameplay has remained the same, there have been a couple of quality of life additions. You have a variety of settings to tweak the game to your liking, with auto saving and quest markers being just a taste of what you can use. The game also adds a couple of new systems, like the scrolls and sigils, to spice up the original gameplay.

The overall story has remained unchanged for both games, though smaller additions have been added. A couple of areas and story scenarios were added to both games to expand upon their plots and characters. Dragon Quest 2 even gets a new playable character, who adds new aspects to the gameplay and story in equal parts!

I have been waiting for these remakes for years, and I am not disappointed. The HD-2D style really makes the classic sprites feel alive without losing the charm of the originals. I especially like the new playable character in Dragon Quest 2. It changes how I approach battles and gives me a fresh perspective on the story. The quality-of-life features like auto-saving and quest markers are also very welcome, especially for players like me who are returning after many years. It feels like the perfect balance between nostalgia and modern convenience.

I always loved the original Dragon Quest games, but playing them now was difficult because of the old systems. These remakes make it easy to experience the series without struggling with outdated controls or missing features. The story is familiar but still exciting, and I appreciate the small expansions that give more depth to the characters. The graphics are beautiful, and I like how the HD lighting adds atmosphere without losing the pixel art feel. Overall, this is a great way to relive the classics while enjoying modern improvements.

I am mainly interested in the HD-2D graphics. The combination of enhanced pixel art and 3D shading makes every scene visually appealing. It is impressive how the developers managed to preserve the original charm while giving it a modern look. The new settings, like quest markers and auto-battle, make the experience smoother for someone like me who does not have much time to grind. It feels like the series has been thoughtfully updated for a new generation.

I appreciate that the remakes did not change the story too much. The small additions in side quests and character interactions feel meaningful without altering the main plot. I also enjoy having the new playable character in Dragon Quest 2; it gives the game some variety and encourages exploration. The combination of nostalgia and fresh content works very well. I am already planning to replay both games multiple times because of these thoughtful updates.

I am a long-time Dragon Quest fan, and these remakes feel like a proper tribute to the classics. I love the way they preserved the old-school gameplay while still making it accessible to modern audiences. Features like auto-saving and quest markers are small but impactful changes. The story expansions are also welcome; they give more context and personality to characters I remembered from childhood. Playing these games now feels both familiar and exciting.
