Doom ban in Germany lifted
Doom has finally been giving a rating of USK 16+ and if it does sell commercially, people over the age of 16 will now be able to purchase it.
Upon the release of Doom it was indexed under the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons in Germany. After 17 years the ban has been lifted and the game can now be sold commercially.
Pete Hines from Bethesda Softworks, whose parent company purchased id Software in 2009 had this to say:
“We are obviously very pleased with their decision” continuing to say “Can’t give you details yet on when they will be available in Germany. We’ll let everyone know as soon as we know”
The American version of the game is still banned in Germany because it contains graphics that include swastikas.
