Doc Savage Returning in New Dynamite Entertainment Comic Series The Spider’s Web
Dynamite Entertainment announced this week that the legendary pulp action hero Doc Savage is returning in a new comic book series that debuts later this December. The new series, Doc Savage: The Spider’s Web is written by Chris Roberson (iZombie, Hellboy), who wrote the previous Doc Savage: Man of Bronze series from Dynamite. Artist Cezar Razek (Red Sonja: The Black Tower) serves as the penciler for the brand new adventure.
In the new story, the explorer and scientist Doc Savage and his team respond to a devastating earthquake in South America. They soon discover it was no accident, and it is linked to a menace who Savage faced many years before. Doc Savage soon finds a number of closed cases that he had considered isolated threats that were in fact part of a larger connection and web of deception than he ever suspected before.
Speaking on the new series, writer Chris Roberson stated” “Working on Doc Savage has been a childhood dream come true. In our previous mini-series Man of Bronze, we laid out a decades’ long career for Doc, one that remained faithful to Lester Dent’s original vision of the characters in the 30s and 40s, but that also bridged the gap from the pulp era to the modern day. With The Spider’s Web, we’re able to use that long history as backdrop, and to tell several different stand-alone adventures that combine into a larger story.”
Dynamite will launch the book with several cover options. Cover A will be drawn by Wilfredo Torres (Batman ’66, Lobster Johnson) for the first issue. Marc Laming will draw Cover B. A “Blank Authentix” edition will also be available, featuring a blank cover perfect for aspiring artists, convention guests, etc. Finally, there will be Black-and-White and Virgin Art editions by Wilfredo Torres, and a Black-and-White edition by Marc Laming.
