Destiny: The Taken King Breaks Day-One Records
Activision has announced that the new DLC expansion for Destiny, The Taken King, had a record-breaking day one of gameplay. The expansion broke the record for the most downloaded day-one game in PlayStation history. According to an official press release, more gamers played Destiny for the launch of The Taken King than they did at the original launch of the game last year, which was pretty huge in the first place. When Destiny first launched in September 2014, it was already the biggest new video game franchise launch in history.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg stated on the announcement: “Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it’s safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum. Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow and tackle the King’s Fall Raid kicking off on Friday.”
It helps that the PlayStation version of Destiny and The Taken King is getting a lot of additional and timed exclusive content. This includes a PlayStation exclusive Strike, a Crucible map, three sets of armor and an exotic weapon. This content on PlayStation will be a timed exclusive until fall 2016. Both the regular and Legendary Editions of the game include a character boost, called “Spark of Light,” a one-time increase to level 25 which is the minimum level required to play The Taken King content.
Destiny: The Taken King DLC is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
