Crunchyroll’s April Blu-Ray Release Calendar

I’m really excited about this lineup, especially Shangri-La Frontier Season 1 Part 2. The premise of playing challenging VR games resonates with me, and I appreciate that it avoids the overused "trapped in the game" trope. It feels refreshing. I’m also curious about the special features, especially the mini-theater and the textless songs. Crunchyroll always does a solid job with physical releases, and having these extras makes them worth owning.

Classroom of the Elite Season 3 is the one I’m looking forward to most. I’ve been invested in Ayanokoji’s story since the first season, and the complexity of the class dynamics keeps me hooked. "Mixed Camp" sounds like an intense arc, and I’m curious to see how they handle the group interactions. The extras seem okay, but I wish they’d include more behind-the-scenes content or interviews with the cast.

One Piece Collection 37 is the highlight here for me. It covers episodes from the Wano arc, which is easily one of the most visually stunning and narratively rich parts of the series. Crunchyroll’s Blu-ray/DVD combos are always high-quality, so I’m confident this set will deliver. I just wish they’d include more original features. Textless openings are nice, but how about some commentary or art galleries for a series of this magnitude?

I’m pretty hyped for A Certain Scientific Railgun T. It’s been a long time since we got anything new for Railgun on physical media, and this series has consistently delivered strong storylines and action. The lack of detailed special features is a bit disappointing, but I’m more about the main content anyway. Hopefully, this release gets more people into the franchise—it deserves way more attention.

I was hoping to see some older classics in this lineup. Crunchyroll has such a vast library, but they keep focusing on newer shows. Don’t get me wrong—Shangri-La Frontier and Classroom of the Elite are cool—but where are the re-releases of iconic series like Trigun or Cowboy Bebop? I feel like they’re missing out on a broader audience.

I don’t understand why people are so hyped about textless opening and ending songs as extras. I’ve always found those pretty useless, honestly. If I’m buying a Blu-ray, I want something unique that I can’t find on streaming platforms—like creator commentary or collectible booklets. Until they improve their extras, I’ll just stick to streaming.
