(2) Confession (2019)
In the 2019 series titled “Confession”, each episode ends with a question that has to be answered in the next episode. A great way to keep the viewer interested.
When Choi Do-Hyun was in high school, his father was convicted of murder. Once he became an adult he got a law degree and began working as a Public Defender in the criminal justice system. He believed his father had been falsely accused and wanted to learn how the law could be used to convict innocent people and free the guilty.
The most important principles to remember about a democratic justice system are:
- The accused is innocent until PROVEN guilty.
- The Public Defender does not have the BURDEN TO PROVE THE GUILT of the defendant.
- It is the Prosecutor’s responsibility to prove the guilt of the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.
- If the Public Defender defends the defendant and raises REASONABLE DOUBT that the evidence and testimony presented by the Prosecutor does not prove the defendant committed the crime … if there is reasonable doubt about the defendant’s guilt, the judge (or jury) must rule in favor of the accused.
Harsh but valuable lessons to be learned about a democratic justice system are
- Sadly, sometimes the guilty go free. But it’s because the Prosecutor did not prove they were guilty. The fault does not lie with the Public Defender. Even if the defendant is judged not guilty and later makes a CONFESSION that he or she is guilty, they can’t go to prison for that crime. Something in the law called “Double jeopardy”.
- Sadly, sometimes prosecutors do things that are “criminal” TO the accused criminal, i.e. the defendant, such as: intentionally having an innocent person arrested and imprisoned, planting evidence to frame the innocent person in order to “prove” their guilt, paying certain “witnesses” for false testimony, etc.
Having learned these important principles and harsh but valuable lessons through the study of the law and experience practicing and applying the law in the courtroom, Choi Do-Hyun believes he can prove his father’s innocence. Can he?

(3) Confession (2014)
Fans of Ji Sung will probably like this 2014 film titled “Confession”. The moral of the story is painfully clear. No perfect plan is ever perfect! Especially when that plan involves doing something illegal like insurance fraud. A secondary lesson is that sometimes people stretch the bond of friendship until the bond breaks. True good friends never take advantage of each other or take each other for granted.
Main Characters:
- Hyun-Tae (played by Ji Sung, “Connection”, “Adamas”, “The Devil Judge”)
- In-Chul (played by Ju Ji-Hoon, “Light Shop”, “Love Your Enemy”, “Along With the Gods 1 and 2”, “Blood Free”, “Jirisan”, “Hyena”, “Kingdom”)
- Min-Soo (played by Lee Kwang-Soo, “The Killer’s Shopping List”, “Inseparable Bros”, “The Sound of Your Heart”)
