Coming up in Gaming – October 2016
Now that the summer months are out of the way and we are starting to approach the holiday period, developers and publishers are now beginning to push out their big hitting franchises. October is set to see a whole host of AAA titles alongside some smaller games, so there should be plenty to keep you occupied over the coming weeks.
Big Hitters
The first major release in October comes in the form of Mafia 3. While reviews for the game won’t become available until after its release thanks to a decision by 2K Games not to send out early copies to the press. Releasing on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, it will see players take on the role of Lincoln Clay, the Vietnam veteran who has begun to start a criminal empire. The developer has gone to great lengths to ensure the story and action is as realistic as possible, going so far as to include the various rules and traditions present in real the real mafia organizations. It is set to launch on October 7.
Xbox One players will get the chance to buy the latest entry in one of Microsoft’s most prizes franchises – Gears of War 4. It is first game in the main series not to be developed by Epic Games after Microsoft purchased the rights to the property and handed over development to The Coalition. Coming on October 11, it is set some 15 years after its predecessor and features a cast of new characters that include J. D. Fenix (the son of Marcus), Del Walker, and Kait Diaz that are attempting to protect the human survivors on Sera.
Although the developers behind Call of Duty have decided to head to the future, DICE have instead gone back to their roots with Battlefield 1. A departure from its predecessors, this latest release in the series takes place during World War One, giving you the chance to battle on horseback and experience combat with a collection of weapons and vehicles that have never really been showcased in a high-profile console game before. You’ll be able to play Battlefield 1 from October 21.
Meanwhile, October 25 will see the release of two highly anticipated games. The first of these in Titanfall 2, Respawn Entertainments first-person shooter / mech warfare hybrid. A recent beta showed players exactly what they can expect gameplay wise, while the sequel will also include a fully fleshed out singleplayer campaign, unlike the first instalment. Finally, October will come to a close with the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition. This is a remastered version of the highly acclaimed RPG, bringing all of the DLC and mod support to next generation consoles.
