Closing theme of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure through out the years
The closing themes of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure have always been Western songs. Hirohiko Araki has always been a fan of English lyrics songs from Western countries like the US, UK, and Australia. That is why many characters from his manga are based on real-life singers, bands, and musicians. A living tradition for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime is to have closing theme songs from the decade the Manga was made. Every time a new part of the Manga series gets adapted into an Anime, An English language song is used instead of the typical Jpop and Jrock most anime use. Jojo Anime uses Japanese songs for intros and Vintage English language songs for closing themes. Before the premiere of Part:6 Stone Ocean, Here are the old songs that got reintroduced to a new generation thanks to Jojo.
Part 1 Phantom Blood and Part 2 Battle Tendency, Roundabout by Yes.
The rivalry of Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando was conceptualized by Araki in the 70s. So a 70’s progressive rock song from the English Band Yes was used as Outro. Joseph Joe Star also shared the same closing theme from his grandfather. According to the director of the Anime, Arako was listening to Roundabout when he was writing the Manga. So in a way, Using this song is a tribute to Araki’s plight for writing this story. Also, I don’t think people from 2012 will be able to resonate with a song from the 1800s and 1938.
Part 3 Stardust Crusaders: Walk Like an Egyptian
Jotaro Cujo and his Grandfather Joseph Joestar are joined by a group of Manly men on a trip to Egypt. Their Mission is to save his mother Holly Joestar. It is a Manga written in the 80s and is set in the 80s. Bangles is one of the most popular bands in the same decade and one of their biggest hit is Walk like an Egyptian. One Jotaro and his gang reached Egypt, Last Train Home by Pat Metheny Group became the closing theme. It is a sad melancholy instrumental.
Part 4: Diamond’s are Unbreakable, I want you by Savage Garden
The Australian Band, Savage Garden became prominent in the 90s. In the same Decade, Josuke battled the serial killer Yoshikage Kira. Araki is a big fan of the Progressive songwriting of this song, hence it became the theme for part 4.
Part 5 Vento Aureo Aka Golden Wind,Freek’n You By Jodeci and Modern Crusaders by Enigma
Most Jojo themes are Rock songs and Rock adjacent pop songs but this one is in RNB. Even if the Manga is set in the year 2000, This 1995 song was used as the first closing because the Manga was released in the same year. The year 2000 song Modern Crusaders by Enigma was used as a second theme to reflect the year this Anime was set.
