Marvel Entertainment has confirmed the two actors who will star in the upcoming live-action Freeform TV series, Cloak and Dagger. The upcoming show will feature former Disney Channel Star Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It, I Didn’t Do It) as Dagger aka Tandy Bowen, and Aubrey Joseph (Run All Night) will portray Cloak aka Tyrone Johnson.
Speaking on the announcement, executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski stated: “The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy. When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”
Marvel Head of TV and executive producer Jeph Loeb added, “Marvel is delighted to have found our Cloak and Dagger. Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”
The show is described as a “coming-of-age series” based on the Marvel Comics and characters. In the series, Tandy and Tyrone come from different background, but they each grew up with a secret they never shared with anyone. Tandy was a privileged little girl who saw her family become destroyed by a terrible storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, she has an unexpected encounter with Tyrone that changes her life.
Tyrone in the show wanted to prove that he was a fearless person. However, everything he held dear was taken away, and it caused Tyrone to become afraid. After growing older and more sheltered, Tyrone has closed himself off. However, after he meets Tandy, his life changes forever.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is produced by Marvel TV and ABC Signature Studios. The show will air later on Freeform. It’s release date has not yet been confirmed.
