Cloak and Dagger Series Ordered by Freeform
It looks like the Marvel Comics superhero, crimefighting duo, Cloak and Dagger, will be a new comic book superhero TV series. Per a report from Variety, the Disney-owned channel Freeform, formerly ABC Family, has given a straight-to-series order for Cloak and Dagger. The show is being described as a superhero love story based on the characters.
In the comics, Tandy Bowen aka Dagger and Tyrone Johnson aka Cloak, are two teenagers from different backgrounds but find themselves burdened and awakened by newly discovered superpowers. The article description says they discover the powers while also “falling in love” in the show. Tandy’s superpowers allow her to emit light daggers and Tyrone can engulf others in darkness. Together, the two make a formidable crime-fighting duo in an already complicated world.
Freeform is looking to aim the show at a young adult audience in the 14-34 demo. This would mark the first Marvel series on Freeform. Marvel TV and ABC Signature Studios are co-producing the show and searching for a writer and showrunner for the series. Cloak and Dagger were created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. They first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man Issue #64 in 1982. More recently, Cloak and Dagger appeared as featured characters in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated TV series, but this will be their live-action debut.
