Cleopatra Entertainment Acquires New Ultraman Movie
Ultraman, one of Japan’s oldest kaiju characters, is about to come back to life in a new adventure. Shin Ultraman will screen tonight and tomorrow night in US theaters courtesy of Fathom Events, but if you miss that showing or you prefer your Japanese superheroes as a home viewing experience, there’s good news: a deal has been reached to distribute the film to home formats next spring.
Cleopatra Entertainment has acquired U.S. territory rights to Shin Ultraman and announced plans to release it on DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD soon. The rights deal was brokered by Cleopatra Founder and CEO Brian Perera, Tim Yasui VP/GM of Cleopatra Entertainment, and by Brian O’Shea of The Exchange on behalf of the filmmakers. Bonus features were mentioned for the disc versions, but it is unknown at this time what they have in mind.
Shin Ultraman is described as a “reimagining” of the classic character, a mysterious silver figure who descends from the sky to defend Japan from vicious kaiju of all varieties. The film was written by Hideaki Anno (Shin Godzilla) and directed by Shinji Higuchi (Shin Godzilla, Attack on Titan). Shin Ultraman stars Takumi Saitoh (Shin Godzilla, 13 Assassins), Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car, The Wind Rises), Masami Nagasawa (Before We Vanish, Mother), Daiki Arioka (Innocent Curse), and Akari Hayami (Gintama, Forget Me Not).
You can catch Shin Ultraman in a theater near you tonight (maybe). The digital and disc release happens in the spring of 2023.
