Carrie Fisher Will Be In Star Wars Episode IX
As anyone who’s seen The Last Jedi knows, Carrie Fisher was set to play a major role throughout the entire trilogy as General Leia. Unfortunately, she passed from this world after shooting Episode XIII. This would mean Episode IX would have to now work her death into the plot, right?
Maybe not. StarWars.com released its full cast list for the upcoming movie, and Carrie Fisher is listed among the cast. How can they do it if they have no new footage to work with?
Apparently they have enough OLD footage. Director JJ Abrams says a significant portion of footage Fisher filmed for Episode VII can be repurposed for Episode IX.
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher….Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
So does this mean Leia lives through the trilogy? Maybe, maybe not. Mark Hamill is ALSO on the cast list for the ninth episode, and he ghosted himself away at the end of Last Jedi. This would mean his listed appearance would be in the form of a Force Ghost. Is that how Leia will appear too?
It’s our hope that they can find a way to edit Leia into surviving. It depends on just how much footage the crew has to work with — something only they know right now.
