Capcom confirms all of Resident Evil 6’s on-disc DLC will be free, first batch announced

Following the hoo-ha, debates and feuds about the fact some of Resident Evil 6’s DLC is on-disc (a la Street Fighter X Tekken), the developer has stepped forward to clarify that these particular extras will not come at a price.

Over on the Capcom Blog, employee ‘Brelston’ writes that a soon-to-come title update will bring with it new content: a ‘No Hope’ difficulty mode (which in his words is “super hard”), and the option to play Ada Wong’s campaign with a human or AI co-op partner. In addition, the update will make the anti-heroine’s romp available from the get-go, meaning players will no longer have to complete all three primary stories to unlock it.

Perhaps more importantly though, Brelston explains clearly that on-disc DLC will be free, and only off-disc DLC will be chargeable:

Some data of this update is on the disc, but said data is incomplete and requires the actual download to access. But again, [it’s] free. Mercenaries costumes are residentevil.net unlocks. Simply register for the site and start earning RE points for those goodies.

Future paid DLC – like the multiplayer modes we revealed a while ago – is not on the disc. We said as much a month ago, but that point may have been lost in the shuffle.

The tl;dr version is – RE6 on-disc DLC is free, paid DLC is not on the disc.

In case you’re wondering, ‘tl;dr’ is forum speak for “too long; didn’t read”.

Here’s hoping that this statement will put the minds of the somewhat unsettled RE community at rest.
