BIT.TRIP Rerunner Adds Music Maker

BIT.TRIP Rerunner introduces new Music Maker feature, allowing players to create their own songs for the levels they create.

Earlier this year, BIT.TRIP Rerunner was launched on Steam: a new version of the classic endless runner rhythm game. It not only included many new levels but the feature “Runner Maker” — a level creation editor that let anyone make their own BIT.TRIP levels and share them. Said levels were limited to the music tracks preinstalled to the game, however.

That’s no longer a problem! With its latest update, Rerunner is introducing the “Music Maker” feature. You’ll be able to construct your own songs for your levels, and test them out in real time to make sure the bounces line up correctly. “It is now possible for virtually anyone in the BIT.TRIP RERUNNER community to not only create custom levels, but also add wholly original music beautifully integrated to the gameplay itself,” brags developer Choice Provisions.

“Music Maker” is just part of a new update to the game that also adds Level Design Pack 1, containing the following never before seen items for custom levels:

  • Flaint Fountain
  • Challenge Star
  • Navigation Arrows
  • Celebration Confetti
  • Dancing Flowers
  • Timdustries Tasty Timbles to Tot To

On top of all that, those who don’t own the game will find it on sale this week. During the Steam Autumn Sale, the price will be reduced by 33%. The discount expires November 28.

Overview of BIT.TRIP RUNNER

BIT.TRIP RUNNER, was an exhilarating and challenging rhythm-based platformer game that was released on May 17, 2010. Developed by Gaijin Games, this game was the fourth installment in the Bit.Trip series. It combines retro-style graphics, addictive gameplay, and an immersive audio experience to create a unique and mesmerizing gaming adventure.

In BIT.TRIP RUNNER, players took control of CommanderVideo, a pixelated character who must navigate through a series of treacherous levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and rhythmic patterns. The objective is to guide CommanderVideo through the levels by jumping, sliding, and kicking in sync with the energetic soundtrack. The gameplay is fast-paced and requires precise timing and quick reflexes to successfully complete each level.

History and background of BIT.TRIP RUNNER

BIT.TRIP RUNNER was created as a tribute to classic arcade and console games of the past. The Bit.Trip series honors the pioneers of console gaming and seeks to capture the essence of those early gaming experiences. Developed by Gaijin Games, the Bit.Trip series is known for its innovative gameplay mechanics and artistic style.

In the original game, Gaijin Games aimed to create a game that seamlessly integrates music with gameplay. The music interfacing with the gameplay enhances the overall experience and creates a hypnotic and immersive atmosphere. This aspect of the game was inspired by the game Everyday Shooter, which also features a similar music-gameplay fusion.

The graphics in the original game are wacky and whimsical, adding to the game’s charm and distinct visual style. The retro-inspired pixel art and vibrant colors create a visually captivating world for players to explore as they progress through the levels.

Overall, the game offers a unique blend of addictive gameplay, mesmerizing audiovisuals, and a shared sense of accomplishment when playing with friends. Its nostalgic charm and challenging gameplay make it a standout game in the Bit.Trip series and a must-play for fans of rhythm-based platformers.

What memories! BIT.TRIP RUNNER was a hidden gem, and seeing Rerunner get these updates makes me happy. It's almost like a love letter to the Bit.Trip franchise. The commitment to preserving classic games, as well as the seamless integration of music and gameplay—pure nostalgia. Excuse me while I go take a victory lap with my CommanderVideo pixel art.

As a fan of rhythm games, I need precision right now. The addition of Challenge Star has renewed my interest, but it better be hot. I'm ready to take on those custom levels and demonstrate my rhythmic prowess.
