Behind Your Touch: Moon and Bong are a Crime_Solving Duo!

“Behind Your Touch” is a 2023 Korean drama series, streaming on Netflix. There are 16 episodes and if you’re in the mood for comedy and crime-solving, add this to your watch list. Detective Moon and Doctor Bong make a good investigative team.

♦ Superpowers That are Better Than Doctor Dolittle

“Behind Your Touch” is a delightful comedy that mixes in elements of Romance and Crime and Mystery. Episode 1 introduces Doctor Bong Ye-Bun, the main female character. She runs an animal hospital where she prefers to treat dogs and cats. The problem is that she lives in a country village called Mujin where there are farmers with cows and they need her to treat their livestock.

On the night of a meteor shower, she travels to a farm to examine a cow about to give birth to a calf. (Meteors are also known as shooting stars.) As she is touching the cow’s hind parts, she is blinded by a bright light and becomes unconscious. When she wakes up she discovers that she now possesses psychometric superpowers.

WHOA! It’s better than Doctor Dolittle. He could only talk to the animals, but Doctor Bong Ye-Bun could touch the animals, diagnose their ailment, and treat them. Plus, she can also use her psychometric superpowers on humans! Although it’s not that easy because she has to touch their butts. It’s kind of hard to do that without looking like you’re a pervert.

♦ Detective and Doctor Team Up

The first time Ye-Bun used her superpowers on a human, she tracked down a kidnapper and saved a woman’s life. Detective Moon Jang-Yeol convinces her to team up with him and use her superpowers to help him solve crimes. He also convinces her it’s best not to let others know she is psychometric.

But why should Ye-Bun only help Jang-Yeol? He has experience working on a violent crime investigation team. But he was transferred to Mujin from Seoul as a sort of demotion and is desparate to return to his old position in the capital city. However, he may never get the opportunity to return because there is hardly any crime in Mujin. At least that’s what the villagers think.

Since Moon Jang-Yeol is an outsider, he thinks differently from the locals. He suspects that Mujin is the perfect location for drug criminals to run their operations. If he can expose their illegal drug business in Mujin, the higher-ups back in Seoul will probably ask him to come back. Ye-Bun agrees to use her superpowers to help Jang-Yeol, hoping that he will return to Seoul. They’re not a couple and he’s interfering with her love life. If he goes back to Seoul, she can return to living a normal life!

It turns out Mujin is not a crime-free tourist village; and Jang-Yeol’s suspicion about the village being used for illegal drug trafficking is correct. But there is also a serial killer murdering villagers. Doctor Bong and Detective Moon work together and become a successful crime-solving duo!

• NME: 2 out of 5 stars

My personal rating is 8 out of 10 stars. NME rated the series 2 out of 5 stars because of “corny plot devices”, “cheap laughs”, “lack of substance”, and a few other reasons. I a sticking to my rating because I thought the doctor/detective duo worked together well to solve crimes, once they figured out ways for Ye-bun to touch somebody’s butt without looking like a pervert. (LOL.) The series was light and comical as expected. Overall watching “Behind Your Touch” was kind of fun!
